Sports in Brief: Bums rained out, play two tonight

TRAVERSE CITY — Friday’s night scheduled Frontier League series opener between the Traverse City Beach Bums and Lake Erie Crushers was postponed due to inclement weather.

The teams will play two seven-inning games tonight, starting at 6:05. Gates will open at 5 p.m.

Friday’s postgame fireworks show will be made up at a date to be determined later in the year. Tickets for Friday’s game can be exchanged at the Beach Bums ticket office for any remaining regular season home game.

Tonight will be Wilderness Night at Wuerfel Park. Kyle Randall, host of the Wilderness Journal, will be on hand to sign autographs, throw out a first pitch, and participate in on-field activities.


Six TC tennis players earn first-team All-State

TRAVERSE CITY — Six Traverse City tennis players earned first-team All-State honors.

The All-State teams were selected by the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association.

In Division 1, Traverse City Central’s Paige Cooley at No. 1 singles and Elizabeth Pappas-Amelia Pezzetti at No. 1 doubles received first-team recognition. Honorable mention to Kitty Mast, who played No. 2 singles for the Trojans, and Devon Dotterrer-Abby Palisin, who played No. 2 doubles.

In Division 4, St. Francis sophomore Amanda Bandrowski at No. 1 singles and Chloe Lodge-Bailey Chouinard at No. 1 doubles picked up first-team honors. Honorable mention went to Natalie Burke, who played No. 2 singles for the Gladiators, and Courtney-Carlee McCardel, who played No. 2 doubles.

Cadillac’s Morgan Kelly-Madeline Saucedo were honorable mention in Division 3.
