Art Park kick off
THOMPSONVILLE — Michigan Legacy Art Park will kick off summer with a "Fairies and Forts" event.
The event from 2 to 5 p.m. today, June 22, will feature creative projects, classic fairy tales, face painting and a march to the park's Fort led by Song of the Lakes percussionist Rick Jones.

At the Alden Library
ALDEN — Up coming events at the Alden District Library, 8751 Helena Road, include a used book sale starting Sunday, June 23, at 2 p.m. and continuing through 4 p.m. Thursday, June 28.

CHARLEVOIX — Summer music at the Charlevoix Public Library gets under way Sunday, June 23, with the Sunday Serenade series.
Sunday Serenades start at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, and Aug. 11 and 18. Performers play for an hour from the library balcony.
The SummerFolk Series kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 24, in the community room. Additional concerts will be held on July 29, Aug. 12 and 26, and Sept. 30. Each concert is followed by an open mic. Sign up starts at 6 p.m.
Jazz @ the Library starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 10. All concerts will be in the Children's Garden and listeners should bring their own seating. The series continues on July 17 and 31, and Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28.

Program on stress
TRAVERSE CITY — Bill Paxton, director of Pine Rest Christian Mental Health's Traverse City clinic, will give a presentation on dealing with stress on Monday, June 24.

Public input sought
TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation Trails, in partnership with Garfield Township, invites the community to a public input meeting for the proposed second phase of the Buffalo Ridge Trail.
In November 2011, the first phase of the Buffalo Ridge Trail opened, connecting Grand Traverse Commons to West Middle School. The second phase will connect the school to the new YMCA on Silver Lake Road. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. Monday, June 24, at the Garfield Township Hall, 3838 Veterans Dr.
TRAVERSE CITY — Vaughn Seavolt, owner/operator of Life Story Funeral Home in Traverse City, will be the guest speaker at the Monday, June 24, program in the Successful Aging Series.

Star Spangled craft
TRAVERSE CITY — Adult Craft Night on Thursday, June 27, will feature a "Star Spangled Earrings" workshop with local artist Kathy Sargent.

Programs for adults and mature teens ages 15 and older include "Paddle to Paint" with Glenn Wolff; metalsmithing workshops with Kim Bazemore from Cog's Creek Gallery; pottery wheel camps with Phil Wilson; "Summer Sketchbook" and "Book Illustration for Beginners," both with Glenn Wolff; and an encaustic workshop with Julie Pearson.
Youth ages 11 to 17 can explore photography, the pottery wheel, glass fusing or metalsmithing in half-day Thursday afternoon programs throughout the summer.
