You're Needed 06/29/2013

The Program Committee of Benzie Area Christian Neighbors (BACN) has begun the search for a volunteer to take over leadership for GED (General Educational Development) prep classes, a role currently held by GED program coordinator, Barb Heiman, who will be stepping back after five years as instructor and life skills coach for students working toward their high school diploma.

“The only GED and Adult Education classes offered in Benzie County are offered here,” said Gerri VanAntwerp, executive director. “This is our signature effort to help individuals become self-sufficient. ... It is critical that we find the combination of passion and instructional skill that Barb brought here every day. ... During her tenure, Barb enrolled dozens and dozens of individuals to start preparing for the five testing modules required for the high school diploma. She is especially good working with adults at all ages and stages of literacy.”

Interested volunteer candidates should contact VanAntwerp, 882-9544 or gvanantwerp@benziebacn.org, for more information.
