TC Hounds top Bruins 8-1 in Berkley

BERKLEY — Jacob Gillis and Cam Fisher each had two goals and three points as the Traverse City Hounds Jr. A hockey team opened up its season with an 8-1 road win over the Berkley Bruins.

Garrison Sanipass added a goal and three assists as TC jumped out to a 4-0 first-period lead on the strength of both of Gillis’ scores.

Patrick Rogowski, Jordan Ruterbusch and Josh Smith also scored goals for Traverse City, while Alex DeVries assisted on two scores. Scott Luca, Kevin Hansen, Tyler Thirlby and Matthew Passino had single helpers.

The Hounds had 56 minutes of penalties and were fortunate that Berkley could convert on only one of 10 power-play opportunities.

David Krejcik was in net and stopped 15 of 16 shots for the Hounds, who face the Bruins again this afternoon and again Sunday before returning for their home opener next Friday.
