TRAVERSE CITY —
That's how Mary Flees termed the Boardman River's relentless crawl toward her Brown Bridge Road house this afternoon.
Flees and her husband Ed scurried to round up their dogs, food, electronics and other valuables in case they're forced from their home. And the river relentlessly rose and pushed them toward evacuation ever since they noted it moving fast and muddy at about 11:30 a.m. today.
"I just know it's close enough I could stand on my deck and fish right now," Mary Flees said at about 2 p.m.
The Flees' have lived 50 years in the first house downstream from Brown Bridge Dam and never faced such flooding or impending crisis, Ed Flees said.
"We just hope other people downstream don't get washed out," he said.
