Deputies: Thousands in quarters stolen from car wash

TRAVERSE CITY — An Acme Township car wash is short about $2,000 in quarters after a thief or thieves broke into the business’ coin machines that operate the car wash.

The owner of M-72 Auto Wash, 4200 E M-72, reported the theft occurred Monday sometime after 6 p.m. and before 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Grand Traverse sheriff’s deputies determined the machines were tampered with.

Any business or financial institution in the area that sees a large amount of quarters turned in is asked to contact the sheriff’s department at 231-995-5000 or Silent Observer at 231- 947-8477.
