Schuba to dial it up in 3-point contest

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kalkaska native and current Madonna University guard Travis Schuba is one of four contestants for the 2014 NABC-NAIA Men’s Basketball 3-Point competition.

The contest will occur on March 22, as part of the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship at 12:30 p.m. CDT in Kansas City, Mo.

A two-time All-Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference first team selection, Schuba holds the career 3-point record at Madonna, as he passed current head coach Noel Emenhiser this season. Schuba knocked down 399 triples in his career to hold the top spot by 53. Schuba also holds three of the top five single-season marks in MU history for made 3-pointers. A total of 74 percent (399 of 537) of Schuba’s career field goals were from beyond the arc.


Crosby in prep 3-point contest

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Christian senior Kris Crosby has been invited by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan to the MHSAA “3 Point Shooters Top Performers Shootout” at the Breslin next Saturday during the boys state championship games.

During his senior campaign, the 6-foot-7 Crosby shot almost 50 percent from behind the arc. He averaged 23 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks, three assists and two steals a game. The competition will be at half time of the March 22 Class A finals at 10:30 am.

Maleski part of NCAA champ team

DETROIT — Traverse City’s Elly Maleski is an NCAA Division II champion and record-holder.

On the first day of the NCAA Division II Championship meet Maleski — a sophomore at Wayne State University — swam the lead leg of the 200-meter medley team that place second and had a time of 25.90 for her 50 backstroke.

The following day, Maleski swam the anchor leg of 200 free relay which ended up in first place and broke the NCAA Division II relay record. Her relay split was 22.88.
