---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Area Public Schools board members will consider a contract with the Food Service Employees Association, the purchase of 11 new school buses and employee layoffs, resignations and retirements at their meeting Monday night.
The agreement with the Food Service Employees Association, which represents about 83 kitchen leaders, cooks cashiers and cooks’ assistants, would include a 1 percent salary increase for the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years, if approved. The agreement would be a two-year contract good from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2016.
Food Service Employees Association members voted on and ratified the contract March 5, according to the TCAPS board meeting packet.
TCAPS’ current contract with the union doesn’t expire until this summer, board president Kelly Hall said. The biggest change to the current agreement is the salary increase.
“This will be going forward once their contract expires,” she said.
Board members also will consider spending about $979,000 in bond money on 11 new, 71-passenger school buses. The district currently has seven, 12-year-old and seven, 11-year-old conventional buses on the road.
Each new bus will cost about $89,000.
Six employees are set to resign effective June 30 and 10 are set to retire effective July 1, if all 16 requests are approved by the board. Board members also will consider laying off two probationary teachers who were unable to obtain their Michigan Teacher Certification.
The board meeting is open to the public and set for Monday at 6 p.m. at the Tompkins Boardman Administration Center, 412 Webster St.
The TCAPS Indian Anishinaabe Education Program also will hold its annual public meeting Monday at 6 p.m. It will provide grant information, student achievement information and graduation data on the program. The meeting is in the Traverse City High School’s Indian Education Office, 3962 Three Mile Road North.
