TRAVERSE CITY — Bishop Bernard Hebda of the Diocese of Gaylord will preside over a groundbreaking ceremony today, May 25, for the new home of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
The ceremony starts at 6:15 p.m. at the new church site on the west side of Center Road, just past Island View Road, on the Old Mission Peninsula. The parish will be moving its existing 1907 church building to the new site this summer, enlarging it and adding a rectory and parish center.
BEAR LAKE — Rhubarb will be in the spotlight at a social Sunday, May 26, at Bear Lake Christian Church, M-72, west of Grayling.
The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m., rain or shine, with music by the Front Porch Pickers. A hot dog plate with beverage will be available for $3.50. Extra hot dogs are $1.50 each. Rhubarb desserts or pie a la mode will be $4.
VANDERBILT — Self-Realization Fellowship monks Jayananda and Brahmachari Martin from Los Angeles, will visit Song of the Morning Ranch Yoga Retreat, 9607 E. Sturgeon Valley Road, Saturday and Sunday, June 1-2.

TRAVERSE CITY — Bay Pointe Community Church will offer the Alpha Course.
Classes will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for 10 Mondays, June 3-Aug. 12, at the church, 6880 Secor Road. Participants will share a light supper, listen to a talk exploring the basics of Christianity and gather for group discussion.

TRAVERSE CITY — Anyone who worked at the Traverse City Regional Psychiatric Hospital is invited to a reunion on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
The get-together will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the large pavilion near the bathrooms at the Silver Lake Recreation Area off East Silver Lake Road. Help setting up is needed starting at 11 a.m. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass and a lawn chair. Meat, water, lemonade and table service will be furnished.

Art therapy course
TRAVERSE CITY — Dr. Barbara McIntyre, a board certified and registered art therapist, will offer “Explorations in Art Therapy,” an introductory course for graduate and undergraduate students, this fall through Wayne State University.
