Hounds’ Krejcik and Luca collect awards

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Hounds player David Krejcik won the Midwest Hockey League’s Goaltender of the Month award for the third straight month.

In December, the 19-year-old Czech Republic native went 5-0-1 and stopped 196 of the 210 shots he faced for a .924 save percentage and a 2.30 goals-against average.

On the season, Krejcik is 15-3-1-2 with a .940 save percentage and a 1.74 goals-against average.

Hounds blueliner Scott Luca won the Defenseman of the Month honor.

Luca has registered four goals in five games last month while regularly logging 25-plus minutes a game.

A second-year defenseman and Kalkaska native, Luca is averaging nearly a point per game in Traverse City with nine goals and 20 points in 21 games.

Beckett elected to MASA Hall of Fame

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City resident Barb Beckett has been elected to the Michigan Amateur Softball Association’s Hall of Fame in the category of meritorious service.

For more than 30 years, Barb Beckett has promoted softball in the Grand Traverse area, while employed at the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA. Beckett began umpiring in 1986 and continued to umpire until 2008. During this time, she umpired in nine MASA State Championships in men’s slow pitch, women’s slow pitch, and coed divisions.

Beckett took over as District 19 MASA Commissioner in 1992, and still serves in that capacity. She has been the host and tournament director for five MASA State Tournaments in Traverse City.

She has served as the tournament director for the Trout Festival Men’s Slow Pitch Tournament for 18 years, at its peak, drawing 30-plus teams. Barb has also been the host and tournament director for the Cherry Festival Tournament for 20-plus years with over 30 teams during its peak.

The MASA Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place at The H Hotel in Midland on January 18 at 7:00 p.m.
