Humanists meet

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse Humanists will meet on Monday, Feb. 10.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the History Center of Traverse City, 322 Sixth St. Jeremy Beahan, co-host of the Reasonable Doubts Podcast and instructor of philosophy and world religions, will give a program titled “Does Religion Make People Better.”

Financial aid workshops

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College will hold a series of free FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) workshops.

The schedule is: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. today, Feb. 8, Osterlin Building; 3-7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, room 206, the University Center, Dendrinos Drive; 3-7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, room 201, Parsons-Stulen Building, Aero Park Drive; 3-7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 13, room 210, Great Lakes Campus, 715 E. Front St.; and 3-7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, Osterlin Building.

Bay Film Series

SUTTONS BAY — The Bay Film Series continues with “The Rocket,” an award-winning film from Laos/Thailand.

The film will be shown at 2 and 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, and at 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 10-11, at the Bay Theatre, 214 St. Joseph St. Non-subscribers are welcome and tickets are $8.50 at the door. Picnic at the Opera

TRAVERSE CITY — The Picnic at the Opera series continues Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St.

The live variety show will be hosted from noon-1 p.m. Miriam Pico is the host and WTCM FM’s Jamie Kramer co-hosts. The musical guest is Brett Mitchell, and students from West Senior High School will preview the musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” Kristy Avery is the guest visual artist and a fashion show will feature items from What to Wear. The show also features poetry commentary by Michael Delp and keyboardist David Chown.
