TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse City woman drunkenly struck a Grand Traverse County sheriff’s deputy on the chin when being placed under arrest for refusing to leave an apartment, authorities said.
Sheriff’s Lt. Brian Giddis said a deputy found a “very intoxicated” woman, 42, after the deputy was dispatched to a Keystone Road apartment Thursday morning on a report of a disorderly person. He said the woman struck the deputy after she fell and he tried to help.
“He helped her to her feet, she pushed him and struck him on the chin,” Giddis said.
The woman’s blood-alcohol content tested at .25, more than three times the legal limit for driving. Giddis said the woman’s intoxication was so acute that the deputy drove her to Munson Medical Center for treatment.
She was taken to Grand Traverse County’s jail later that day on a charge of assaulting a police officer. The woman and the deputy did not suffer injuries in the incident.
