SUTTONS BAY — Leland captured its second straight Class D volleyball district title on Friday with straight-set win over Traverse City Christian.
The Comets (42-10-4) won 25-15, 25-23, 25-13 and advance to Tuesday's regional semifinal at Bear Lake.
"We played very well out of the gate, but TC Christian pressured with their serve and got us out of the flow of the game," Leland coach Laurie Glass said. "In the third game we got back to our kind of volleyball. It was nice to be challenged and still come out with the win."
Brooke Olesnavage led the Comets with 10 kills, 13 digs and six aces. Sammie Sterkenburg had five kills, 15 assists and seven digs, Andrea Hunt had two aces, seven kills, nine digs and three blocks, Maggie Osorio had 11 digs, Caitlin McKee added 15 assists and Noa Yaakoby had four kills and two aces.
TC Christian (22-27-6) only loses three seniors next year.
The Sabres had five kills, a block and two aces from Maddie White, Laura Murray had three kills, three digs and three aces, Mikayla Brett had two kills and four blocks, Amanda Ufer had two aces, Lauren Webb had five digs, Aubrey Heersema had eight assists, Shannon Ufer had six assists and three digs while Riley Price had a block.
