Another View: Mitt should come back to mitten

Mitt Romney, for weeks, has been an inattentive suitor of his native state.

While his presidential campaign checks in just often enough to keep Michigan hopeful, Romney clearly has better prospects in other places. ...

He should recalculate what he might accomplish in Michigan if he invested more money and time in the state where he was born and went to school and where his father was a popular governor. Much of Romney's family still lives in Michigan, and this state is near the top in terms of donations to his campaign.

Romney has a solid organization in Michigan and enthusiastic supporters who are urging him to come back here, particularly with campaign advertising. ...

Of course, if Romney returned to Michigan, Obama, who's been absent as well, would likely follow.

That would be fantastic. Michigan has been ground zero for the economic turmoil of the past decade. There's no better place for the candidates to explain and defend their policies for putting America back to work.

Romney is fond of expressing his love for Michigan by saying "the trees are the right height here." While we aren't quite sure what that means, those trees are ablaze in beautiful October colors. Romney should come back to visit them.
