Gertrude Agnes Saffron

BENZONIA — Gertrude Agnes Saffron, 84, of Benzonia, died Oct. 8, 2012, at Munson Medical Center. She was one of 10 children born to the late Albert and Agnes Hill on April 23, 1928, in Lansing.

She loved garage sales, reading, needlepoint, playing cards, traveling and spending time with her friends. Most of all, her biggest joy in life was her family. Christmases and giving back to others also gave her joy.

Gertrude was a Cub Scout Leader, 4-H Leader and a 23-year senior companion volunteer. She also volunteered with the Salvation Army.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

Gertrude is survived by children, Barbara (John) Hanmer, of Benzonia, Catherine (Richard) Selewski, of Gladwin, Fuzz (Dee) Saffron, of Benzonia, and Donald (Mary) Starkey, of Macomb; grandchildren, Richard, Don, Bob, Jim, Joyce and John; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Seth, Jordan, Christian, Jazzmyn, Grace, Sarah, James, Victoria, Ethan and Allyssa; great-great-granddaughter, Sonya; and siblings, Robert (June) Hill, of Harrison Twp., Nancy Kalb, of Mt. Clemens, and Helen (Joe) Garner, of Waco, Texas.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at the Eden Bible Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Contributions may be directed to Benzie Home Health Care or a Senior Companion Program.

Arrangements are by Jowett Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Service.
