Blues in Cleveland for quarterfinal
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Northern Conference champion Traverse Bay Blues will face the Eastern Suburbs Rugby Club today in a Midwest Division 3 quarterfinal.
Both teams are 6-1 entering the 1 p.m. contest in Cleveland.
Eastern Suburbs placed 13th in the nation last year.
"We are more than focused on the goal of reaching the spring championship," Blues coach Tony Dell'Acqua said. "This is a very special time for our club."
TC's Thiel named to U.S. team
TRAVERSE CITY -- Former Traverse City West football and rugby player Phil Thiel made the USA Eagles national squad for two upcoming World Cup qualifier matches against Uruguay.
The Eagles are currently ranked 18th in the world, Uruguay 21st.
The Saturday matches will be on Nov. 14 and Nov. 21
Thiel played rugby locally for Alliance and Traverse Bay Blues. He now attends graduate school at Life University (Ga.), where he also plays rugby for the school's Super League team.
Turkey Trot 5K set for Nov. 14
MAPLE CITY -- The Glen Lake Turkey Trot 5K run/walk will be Saturday, Nov. 14.
There will also be a one-mile fun run/walk.
Registration and packet pick-up begins at 8 a.m. with the races starting at 10.
The Turkey Trot is a fundraiser for the Glen Lake varsity cross-country teams.
Applications can be picked up at the Glen Lake athletic office or at the two Traverse City Running Fit locations.

GT Ski Club team registration set
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Grand Traverse Ski Club Middle School Race Team will hold their registration night Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Civic Center conference room.
