Prep Football Week 7 Previews

TC West at Cadillac

RECORDS: TC West is 4-2 overall, 4-0 in Big North; Cadillac is 6-0 overall, 4-0 in Big North.

WHEN: Tonight at 7 p.m.

It’s all on the line in this Big North match-up between the two unbeatens. “If there was a league championship game, this would be it,” West coach Tim Wooer said. The Titans defense will be tested by a Cadillac offense that features the “best athlete north of Grand Rapids,” Wooer said. That, of course, would be quarterback Jalen Brooks, who leads a Vikings attack that averages better than 36 points a game. Can he be stopped? “The problem is every coach for the last six weeks has said the same thing,” Wooer said. “Easier said than done. There’s no doubt (Vikings coach) Jim Webb wants to have the ball in Jalen’s hands. We want to keep it out of his hands.” To do that, West will need to be effective offensively. This will be Cadillac’s toughest test to date. West two non-league losses were at Midland and Comstock Park, teams with a combined 11-1 record. Cadillac’s non-leagues foes, Lansing Eastern and Bay City John Glenn, are a combined 1-10.

RECORDS: TC Central is 3-3 overall, 1-2 in the Big North; Alpena is 1-5 overall, 0-3 in the Big North.

WHEN: Tonight at 7 p.m.

Last week Central had to prepare for a ground assault at Petoskey. Tonight the Trojans will face an air attack. “Alepna’s an interesting team,” Tojans coach Tom Passinault said. ““They like to spread it out and sling it.” So does Central. In last week’s loss at Petoskey, junior quarterback Sean Williams was 16 of 28 passing for 233 yards and three touchdowns. Alpena will be celebrating Homecoming tonight and it’s a must win game for the Trojans, who must run the table to get back into the playoffs. “It’s a three-game season for us,” Passinault said. “We have to win one at a time.” The Trojans have had to regroup after surrendering 42 points and 334 yards on the ground last week. Central is without middle linebacker Josiah Lopez-Wild (ACL), injured two weeks ago. Joe Schepperly, the other inside backer, is still hobbled by an ankle sprain.
