Prep Sports Roundup: TC Central wins BNC in tennis

PETOSKEY — Traverse City Central won seven of eight flights Tuesday to win the rain delayed Big North Conference tennis tournament at Petoskey.

The tournament started Thursday, but was halted by rain.

The tournament win gives the Trojans the overall crown. Central also claimed the dual portion of the season, which counted 50 percent. Traverse City West finished second overall.

The Trojans captured the tournament with 38 points. West took second with 23.

For the Trojans in the championship matches, Skylar Norgaard beat Petoskey’s Nico Ceniza 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles; Max Knoblock downed Petoskey’s Connor Allen 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2; Cam Young upended Alpena’s Aaron DeCaire 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3; Nick Yergens topped Cadillac’s Ty Pugh 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4; Caleb Heimburger and Hayden Drury defeated Cadillac’s Jake Hunter and Ryan Morse 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles; Parker Berden and Yani Beeker beat West’s Kieran Laursen and Mitch Winowiecki 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2; and Jack Seymour and Austin Wieland topped West’s Sam VanHoorne and Jake Newhouse 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3. The winners all went 3-0.

West’s Erik Anton and David Mather also went 3-0, capturing No. 4 doubles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Petoskey’s Bill Graham and Matt Heintschel.

Leelanau County 8

Elk Rapids 0

Joel Sneed posted an 8-2 win at No. 1 singles as Leelanau County beat Elk Rapids 8-0.

Also victorious for Leelanau: Kyle Hayes (8-2), Lindsey Boone (8-6), Flor Sawon (8-1), Cathy Daniel-Cody Hayes (8-2), James Kilgore-Ben Schweikart (8-2), Amanda Lodge-Lexi Galla (default) and Mara Popp-Becca Brown (default).

TC Central Black wins Big North

Ron Dohm won No. 1 singles as Traverse City Central Black captured the Big North JV tennis tournament.

The Trojans finished with 27 points, Cadillac 22, West 13, Petoskey 9 and Traverse City Central Gold 5.

The Black also had flight winners with Ben Grams at No. 3 singles, Andy Colombo and Nate Michno at No. 1 doubles, Luke Smith and Chase Knoblock at No. 3 doubles and Jack McKay and Luke Fagerstrom at No. 4 doubles.
