TRAVERSE CITY — Gaylord held on for a 41-38 overtime win over Traverse City Central on Tuesday in Big North Conference boys basketball action.
The Blue Devils trailed early in overtime, but put together a late charge to take the lead and maintain it.
The Trojans (3-11) held Gaylord scoreless in the first quarter, but only managed four points. They trailed by six late in the fourth quarter, but tied the game and made a defensive stop late to seal overtime.
Ethan Pilarski had 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists for TC Central while Colin Lesoski had seven rebounds. Gaylord had 11 points from Tyler Frisch while Zach Pasternak had 10 points.
TC Central hosts Ogemaw Heights on Friday and Cadillac on Monday.
Gaylord won the JV game 57-45 and the freshman contest 35-25.
TC West 67 Alpena 64
Facing an eight-point halftime deficit, Alex Scott scored 11 points in the third quarter and senior Jeremiah Williams eight in the fourth as Traverse City West staged a 67-64 comeback win over Big North Conference foe Alpena.
"We had a little senior leadership come out in the second half and then everybody played a little better," Titans coach Brett Graham said.
Williams finished with 25 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists, while Scott added 14 points and Nate Castor nine.
Kendrick Meyer added eight points, seven rebounds and two steals, Zach McGuire had five boards and four assists and Donny Cizek registered five assists, four rebounds and three steals.
The Titans (10-4) travel Friday to Petoskey for a battle for a top spot in the BNC. The Northmen, West and Cadillac each have two losses in a tie atop the standings.
Alpena won the JV game 57-38. Paul Soma had 10 points for the Titans (7-7, 4-5 BNC) while Deion Dyal added nine.
West won the freshman game 63-40 as Josh Roman scored 22 and Jared Roth and K.J. Fayer each had 10 for the 9-3 Titans.
