Girls Basketball Roundup: 01/12/2013

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City West scored a hard-fought 46-39 Big North Conference win over Gaylord on Friday.

Sophomores Katie Placek and Paris Wagner keyed the win. Placek had 12 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. Wagner finished with eight points and 12 rebounds for West (3-6, 3-1), which is at Manistee on Monday.

McKenzie Edwards netted 20 for Gaylord.

West won the JV game 27-24 as Kari Cannon scored eight points and Erica Whiting seven.

The Titans took the freshman game 37-22 behind 12 points and 11 rebounds from Abby Moyes.

Petoskey     50 Ogemaw Heights     27

Petoskey opened a 27-9 lead at half en route to a 50-27 Big North win over Ogemaw Heights.

Kelsey Ance paced Petoskey (7-2, 3-1) with 19 points. Kati Lewis contributed 11.

Kalkaska     64 Harbor Springs     32

Kelli Guy and Tabitha Kibby combined for 44 points as Kalkaska downed Harbor Springs 64-32 in the Lake Michigan Conference.

Guy finished with 24 points, five steals and four assists. Kibby had 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Blazers (5-2, 2-1).

Kingsley     49 Leland     19

Kingsley went to 5-0 in the Northwest Conference with a 49-19 win over Leland.

Autumn Goggin netted 11 points and Amanda Youker eight for Kingsley (8-2 overall). Libby Munoz netted eight for Leland.

Glen Lake     57 Mesick     24

Katie Stowe's 22 points led Glen Lake to a 57-24 Northwest Conference win over Mesick.

The Lakers (7-3, 3-1) pulled away in the second half after leading 22-19 at half. Stowe also contributed three steals. Jessica Lee tallied 11 points and seven rebounds and Jordan Peplinski eight points and four rebounds.

Frankfort     53 Suttons Bay     25

Freshman McKenna Kelly scored 21 points to power Frankfort to a 53-25 Northwest Conference win over Suttons Bay.

She also contributed seven rebounds, six steals and five assists in the win. Shayla Soto added 10 points, six rebounds and five steals while Keelan Kelly had 10 points for the Panthers (5-3, 4-1).

Central Lake     49 Forest Area     25

Central Lake put the clamps on defensively in the second half in beating Ski Valley Conference rival Forest Area 49-25.

The Trojans (5-4, 4-3) led 19-16 at half. They put it away with 16-2 fourth quarter.

Haley Bearden's 12 points led Central Lake. Lauren Rogers added 11. Sophomore Haley Patton provided a lift in the second half. She had five steals in the third quarter, four leading to scores. She finished with six points.

Kortni Birgy's eight points and 10 rebounds topped Forest Area.
