BELLAIRE — Tyler Thornton hit nine 3-pointers en route to a 27-point night as Bellaire remained unbeaten with a 71-40 Ski Valley Conference win over Gaylord St. Mary on Thursday.
Thornton was one 3-pointer shy of the school record held by Jeff Stillwell.
"When he's on, the ball hits nothing but the bottom of the net," Bellaire coach Stan Sexton said.
The Eagles (5-0, 3-0) led 37-24 at half.
Mitch Teetzel and Drew Bailey added 19 points apiece in the win. Teetzel also had 12 rebounds and six assists while Bailey contributed three rebounds and four assists.
Bellaire had 19 assists in the game.
"These guys don't mind sharing the ball," Sexton said.
Charles Strehl netted 14 points and Nick Lochinski 10 for St. Mary.
Mancelona 55 Forest Area 33
Brandon Dingman and Brandon Scott heated up in the second half to carry Mancelona to a 55-33 Ski Valley win over Forest Area.
The Ironmen (5-2, 4-0) led 19-18 at half. Dingman scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the final 16 minutes. Scott had 12 of his 16 in the fourth quarter. Dingman also finished with nine rebounds and three assists. Griffin Borst chipped in seven points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Austin Vance led Forest Area with 14.
Mancelona is at Gaylord St. Mary on Tuesday.
Johannesburg 54 Central Lake 40
Coalton Huff and Cole Nagy netted 11 points apiece as Johannesburg-Lewiston topped Central Lake 54-40 in a Ski Valley contest.
Will Brockman's 19 points paced Central Lake.
Johannesburg-Lewiston (3-4, 2-3) plays Inland Lakes on Tuesday.
Benzie Central 51 Kingsley 41
Benzie Central won its second game in a row, a 51-41 decision over Northwest Conference rival Kingsley.
Corey Weaver led the Huskies (2-4, 2-2) with 21 points. Nate Oren and Corey Bock added nine points apiece. The Huskies led 28-17 at half.
Austin Olson and Scott McPherson paced Kingsley with 10 points.
Benzie hosts St. Francis on Tuesday.
Suttons Bay 57 Buckley 24
Suttons Bay had a double-double from Aaron Orban in a 57-24 Northwest Conference win over Buckley.
Orban had 16 points and reached double-digit rebounds in the first half. Logan Mikesell added 14 points for the Norsemen (2-4).
Austin Burmania had 11 points for the Bears.
Bear Lake 65 Big Rapids Crossroads 37
Bear Lake moved to 5-1 with a 65-37 Western Michigan D League victory over Big Rapids Crossroads.
The Lakers (4-1 WMDL) had 13 points and five rebounds from Josh Metiva while Shane Peterson had 11 points and Bryson Waller scored eight points.
Manistee Catholic 65 Walkerville 45
Manistee Catholic subbed players every four minutes and earned a 65-45 Western Michigan D League win over Walkerville.
The Sabers (5-2, 4-1 WMDL) had 20 points, four assists and four steals from Zack Bialik, 12 points and six boards from Ben Feliczak, seven points from Jesse Miller, seven points and five assists from Andrew Perry, six points from Nick Fortier and 10 rebounds from Jason Kaminski.
Onekema 65 LL St. Mary 52
Bryce Reckow led a balanced attack with 20 points as Onekema beat Lake Leelanau St. Mary 65-52 in a non-league game.
Derek Hobart added 17 points, Jarett Sovereign 13 and Quinn Matthews 11 for the Portagers.
Brandon McSawby led St. Mary with 16 points. Dan Duperon chipped in 11 and Drew Paboda nine.
Burt Lake NMCA 75 Alanson 48
Aaron Chatfield registered a triple-double as Burt Lake evened its record at 3-3 with a 75-48 win over Alanson.
Chatfield finished with 37 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds and five steals.
Robert Taylor added 19 points and 12 rebounds for Burt Lake.
McBain 70 Lake City 61
Senior big man Hunter Powell scored 27 points as McBain pulled away in the second half to outscore Lake City 70-61 in Highland play.
McBain (4-3, 2-1) took a 55-47 lead early in the fourth quarter when senior Clayton Westdorp converted a steal into a breakway and then Powell scored seven of his team's next nine points as McBain built a 64-54 lead with 3:34 remaining.
Westdorp came off the bench to score 15. Senior guard Jared Larr hit for nine while Grant Gugle and Chris Ouwinga each hit for six.
It was the first loss of the season for Lake City (6-1, 2-1). The Trojans stormed ahead 21-8 in the first quarter in front of a packed house as junior guard Kevin Kunkel scored 12 of his team-high 22 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
The Ramblers pulled to within 33-31 by halftime, though, and outscored Lake City 22-14 in the game-turning third quarter to take a 53-47 lead into the final period.
Drew Marion hit for 16 and Ryan Vincent 12 for Lake City.
TC Central Frosh 39 Northport 26
Emily Jenkins scored eight points as the Traverse City Central freshmen defeated the Northport varsity 39-26.
The Trojans are 7-0.
Ashley Pino led Northport with nine points.
Kingsley tops Forest Area, Lake City at double dual
Kingsley picked up a 54-21 win over Forest Area and a 71-12 victory against Lake City.
The Stags had two wins from David Bruner (103), Julian Tompkins (119), Demetrius Atwood (135), Pat Denny (145), Ryan French (152), Brian Lark (171), Josh Parks (189) and Dustin Kerr (215).
