BENZONIA — Benzie Central scored three goals in each half of a 6-3 soccer victory Wednesday over Northport.

Benzie took a halftime lead of 3-1 on a goal by Janfred Wemken and two goals by Andre Teirra.

The second half continued with three more goals — from Chrison Lee, Wemken and Zach Perry.

Lee, Teirra and Galen Grabowski had assists for Benzie.

Paul Dumas was in net for the Huskies and had 11 saves.

Benzie Central (4-3-4) hosts Pine River on Friday.


Glen Lake      1 Suttons Bay      1

Glen Lake's Riley Scanlon evened up the game before halftime, and the Lakers and Suttons Bay ended up tied 1-1 in a Greater Northwest Conference contest.

The Norsemen's Eric Hutton put Suttons Bay, putting in the rebound of a Martin Stowe free kick.

Ryan Tondreau was in goal for the Lakers, while Suttons Bay's Aaron Orban made 18 saves.

Glen Lake hosts Northport on Monday, while the Norsemen (4-5-3, 3-2-3 GNC) host Benzie Central.


Cadillac      3 TC Central      1

Cadillac won a Big North Conference match against Traverse City Central.

The Vikings claimed a 25-18, 25-14, 21-25, 25-16 victory.

The setback drops Central to 15-9-1 and 3-4 in BNC play.

Leading the Trojans on the night were Kiley Kowal (14 kills, Callie Bartkowiak (12 kills), Lauren Lozowski (five kills, three blocks) and Maddy Duensing (37 assists, 14 digs).

Central travels to the Holland West Ottawa Invitational on Saturday, then to Alpena on Monday before hosting Petoskey on Wednesday.

The Trojans won the JV match 14-25, 25-20, 25-15, led by the play of Carissa Bartkowiak and Jessie Heimstra. Central's freshmen also beat the Vikings.
