TRAVERSE CITY — Ron Dohm pitched a one-hit shutout Saturday as Traverse City Central captured its own baseball tournament with a 4-0 win over Muskegon Oakridge.

Adam Stepan collected three hits and Ethan Campbell two for the Trojans (6-13-1). Campbell scored two runs.

Central rallied from a 7-6 deficit in the bottom of the seventh to beat Essexville-Garber 8-7 in the opener. Drew Girard delivered the game-winning RBI. Girard finished with two hits and two RBIs as did Stepan.

Ethan Pilarski added a pair of doubles. Mitch Brien allowed just one run in four innings of relief to earn the win.

Titans second

in own invitational

Traverse City West defeated Marquette 6-3 and Newaygo 5-3 to finish 2-1 and place second in its own Titan Baseball Invitational.

The Titans and East Grand Rapids both finished 2-1. The Pioneers earned the tournament title based on the fact that they defeated West 4-3 on Friday. Newaygo and Marquette both finished 1-2.

Trent McDougall had three hits and drove in a run to lead the Titans past Newaygo. Matt Kirkey earned the victory, while Wes Talbot picked up the save. Will Reed singled and doubled, Geordon Carter added a two-run double, and Colin Bush had an RBI double.

Paul Soma earned the win in relief of starter Jared Roth in West’s victory over Marquette. Roth allowed four hits and struck out one. Walter Burkovich had a two run double, while Reed and McDougall each had two hits and drove in a run, and Bush doubled for the Titans.

West (18-4) plays its final Big North Conference doubleheader of the season Tuesday at Alpena. The Titans are 10-0 in league play, while Alpena is 9-1. A split or a sweep would give West its first league championship since 2009.

GR Creston 4 3

Freshmen pitchers Hunter Cox and Austin Putman pitched Charlevoix to 10-4 and 9-3 non-conference wins over Grand Rapids Creston.
