BUCKLEY — Strikeouts were abundant in a baseball doubleheader between Buckley and Mesick on Tuesday, with pitchers totaling 29 Ks in the first game and 24 more in the nightcap as the two teams split the twinbill.
Thane Herbert fanned 16 while throwing a one hitter to lead Mesick to a 7-0 win in the opener. Tyler Welch came through with 13 strikeouts for Buckley. Clay Wagatha and Brad Harris both homered for Mesick (2-4) among their two hits each. Herbert had a double among two hits. Tyler Meyers also doubled.
Buckley earned the split when Austin Burt drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to win 7-6. Welch had three hits and four RBIs to lead the winners offensively. Welch worked four innings and fanned 11. Austin Burmania, who got the win in relief, pitched the final inning.
Harris took the loss despite 13 strikeouts and five hits allowed. Meyers had two hits and two RBIs to lead Mesick.

Suttons Bay held on for a 3-2 nightcap victory to force a split with Benzie Central.
The Huskies won the opener 5-1 as Josh Ledford struck out five in six innings and added two hits and an RBI at the plate. Zach Perry and Evan Witkop had RBIs and Jackson Ledford scored two runs. Alex Crocker drove in Suttons Bay’s run.
Logan Mikesell was 2-for-3 in the nightcap win for the Norse (6-3-1, 2-1-1 Northwest), while Jake Kiessel fanned six in 5.1 innings of two-hit ball and Mikesell picked up a save.
Nick MacGirr and Josh Ledford doubled in the nightcap for Benzie (5-3, 3-1).

East Jordan 4 2
Shane Sutherland had four hits and six RBIs to lead Charlevoix to an 11-4 and 9-2 sweep of East Jordan.
Sutherland had a pair of doubles and two RBIs in the opener in addition to throwing a complete game four-hitter and striking out three. Tommy Zipp was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Nate Moon had two hits.
