Prep Sports Roundup: Central track sweeps Gaylord

---- — TRAVERSE CITY — In a dual meet with Big North Conference foe Gaylord that was cut short due to lightning in the area, Traverse City Central's boys and girls teams swept both ends of the home event.

The Trojan boys won 86-16 with 10 of 17 events completed, while the girls claimed a 69-39 victory after 11 events.

Aaron Taylor won three events, taking first in the high hurdles (16:07), high jump (6'4") and combining with T.J. Schwannecke, T.J. Schepplerly and Alex Liggett to win the 400 relay (0:45.52).

Schwannecke won the 400 in 0:50.65, Schepplerly took the long jump with a leap of 18'9" and Liggett won the 100 in 12.3 seconds.

Johnny Piatek won the shot put with a 45'11.5" heave, and Adam Foster claimed the discus with a 120'2" throw.

Kyle Dotterrer won the 1,600 in 4:37.38, and was also part of the winning 3,200 relay team, along with Anthony Berry, Chris Brower and Johnny Ackley.

Erin Lipp, Lila Dreves, Lauren Marsh and Katie Moses claimed the 3,200 relay in 10:06.48, while Lauren Murray, Morgan Scollard, Courtney Cadotte and Madison Ostergren teamed up for an 400 relay win (53.37) and Murray, Scollard, Cadotte and Savannah Champion took the 800 relay (1:53.01).

Makenna Beers won long jump (15'11"), Madison Ostergren the 400 (1:04.63), Maddy Weatherholt the 100 hurdles (17.29) and Kailey Mattarella the 1,600 (5:40.59).

In the 100, Gaylord's Mai Dao edged out Beers by 0.01 of a second with a 13.89 time.

Gaylord's Allison Fischer won both the discus (94'1") and shot put (33'0.5"), while Alanna Johnston took the high jump (4'10").

Alpena sweeps West in BNC meet

Traverse City West's Tyler Johnson won the 200 (24.38), 400 (52.67) and anchored the victorious 800 relay (1:36.6) in a Big North meet at Alpena.

The host Wildcats prevailed, 88-74.

Johnson teamed with Spencer Montcastle, Dan Montgomery and Brandon Montgomery in the 800. Montcastle won the 110 high hurdles (16.96).

West also picked up wins from Nick Hirschenberger in the 1600 (4:55), Alec Ondrajka in the 3200 (10:35.9) and Nick Whiting in the discus (132'2").

Alpena won the girls meet, 99.5-55.5.

The Titans captured three events — freshman Olivia Bishop in the high jump (4'10"); Kimmy Bilinski, Allida Smith, Kate Melvin and Hannah Carlson in the 800 relay (1:55.9); and Bilinski, Smith, Carlson and Mattison Mokanyk in the 400 relay (54.9).

Earning seconds were Mokanyk in the 100 hurdles (18.9), Bilinski in the 100 (13.7), Smith in the 200 (28.3), Melvin in the 400 (1:05.9), Jessica Gockley in the 800 (2:37.6), Quinn Hall in the 300 hurdles (54.0) and Paris Wagner in the discus (94'2").


Elk Rapids	7

East Jordan	0

Mylia LaPointe and Hailey Patterson scored two goals each as Elk Rapids posted a 7-0 win over East Jordan to open up Lake Michigan Conference play.

Claire Huhta, Michelle Costa and Carley Patterson also added goals for the Elks (2-0, 1-0 LMC), who travel Friday to Petoskey.

Paige Granger was in goal for Elk Rapids.

Suttons Bay 	1

Kingsley 	1

Suttons Bay and Kingsley tied 1-1 in a game that was called at halftime due to lightning.

Suttons Bay's Emily Beyer knotted the game up at 1-1 three minutes before halftime off a Hannah Weber assist.

Irene Prado made three saves in goal.


Alpena	14 10

TC Central	0 6

Alpena swept a Big North Conference twinbill from Traverse City Central 14-0 and 10-6.

For the Trojans in the nightcap, Drew Girard stole two bases and scored two runs, Adam Stepan collected two hits and Cam Givens doubled in a run.

Central (0-2) travels to East Jordan today.


Glen Lake	13

Evart	0

Jessica Penny struck out seven in tossing a one-hitter as Glen Lake blanked Evart 13-0.

Lexi Wright led the Lakers attack with four hits and four RBIs. Kary Pleva added three hits. Madison Hill contributed a two-run double. Melanie Kulunda, Tayler Galla and Kara Wright all scored twice.

Glen Lake hosts Buckley on Tuesday.


TC St. Francis 	5

Big Rapids 	3

Traverse City St. Francis won three out of four doubles matches as the Gladiators knocked off host Big Rapids 5-3 in a dual meet.

The Glads received wins from Chloe Lodge/Bailey Chouinard (6-2, 7-5), Lauren Hansen/Lena Popp (6-0, 6-0) and Sarah Stayman/Rosie Wilson (6-2, 6-0).

And the St. Francis almost won all four doubles flights, as Courtney McCardel and Emily Szmania forced a decisive set before falling 5-7 in the third.

Amanda Bandrowski won No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-2) and Natalie Burke took the No. 2 flight (6-1, 6-2), while Carlee McCardel nearly pulled out a win at No. 4, pushing the third set to 10-8.

The Glads travel Friday to Midland and Saturday to Essexville for invitationals.
