Prep Sports Roundup: Titans post 18-hole record

TRAVERSE CITY — Payden Myers and Brady Greenman each shot a 1-under par 70 to share medalist honors as Traverse City West won its own high school boys golf invitational at Mistwood Golf Course on Saturday.

The Titans shot a school record 286, besting the previous school 18-hole mark by five shots.

“They caught me by surprise,” third-year West coach Mike Schultz said. “We shot 293 at Elk Rapids on Wednesday and I knew they were getting things going, but to go that low was pretty impressive.”

The Titans’ previous school record, 291, was set last season at West Branch Country Club.

Cam Murray posted en even-par 71 for the Titans, tying for third place with TC Central’s Winton Munch. Alex Scott, a sophomore, posted a 75 for West’s fourth counting score.

Also for the Trojans, who shot 322 to place second, Trey Pezzetti shot 81, followed by Danny Brott, 83; while Riley Boyd and Derek Schrank both shot 87.

Nine teams comprised the field. TC St. Francis shot 357 to place eighth.

Matt Orwig shot 81 to lead the Titans to a first-place finish in the junior varsity portion of the tournament.

The Titans finished with a 345 team score, 18 shots better than runner-up West Branch Ogemaw Heights. Also for West, Jacob Martin shot 86, Seth Perrin, 88; and Sawyer Robinson, 90. Central’s JV team was third with a 369. Zach Egbert had an 88 to lead the Trojans. Other scores for Central included David Chauvette with a 90, Matthew Wooten with a 95, Jordan Baltsma with a 96, Jack Hawley with a 101 and Jackson McKay with a 103.

Both TC West and TC Central will partake in the Gaylord Invitational at Treetops on Tuesday.

Grosse Pointe North, Warren Regina top TC Central Invite

Grosse Pointe North and Warren Regina each went undefeated in three games at the TC Central Invitational soccer tournament.

Central and West each posted one win in three games, with Central defeating Holland 5-0 and West beating Glen Lake 5-0. Glen Lake went winless in three games.
