KINGSLEY — Host Kingsley survived a scare to stay unbeaten in the Northwest Conference on Friday with a 12-6 win over Frankfort.
The game was delayed about 45 minutes late in the fourth quarter for lightning. When it resumed, the Panthers (2-3) had the ball at midfield on fourth-and-2, but were hit with an illegal procedure and couldn't pick up the first down. Kingsley (4-1, 3-0 NWC) was able to run out the clock.
The Stags scored on the first play of the second quarter on a Micah Weesner 170-yard run. Connor Fitzpatrick cored early in the third quarter to complete the team's scoring.
Fitzpatrick ran 19 times for 108 yards. On defense, he had nine tackles and a fumble recovery while Kelly Lark had 10 tackles — three for a loss.
Frankfort (2-3) outgained the Stags, but couldn't get into the end zone.
Nolan Nye had Frankfort's touchdown on a 3-yard run and finished with 123 yards. Brandon Schaub had 43 yards. Defensively, Tony Evans had seven tackles while Nye added six.
Benzie Central 22 Suttons Bay 13
After lightning delayed the game at halftime, Benzie Central hung on for a 22-13 Northwest Conference win over Suttons Bay.
The Huskies (2-3) took a 14-0 lead at halftime. Javier Rodriguez ran 19 times for 116 yards and a touchdown while Garrett Buist caught a 42-yard touchdown pass and a two-point conversion. Cory Bock was 4-for-12 passing for 60 yards.
Defensively, Benzie Central had six tackles and a fumble recovery from Tyler Knudsen while Evan Mocan, Rodriguez and Bock all had picks.
For Suttons Bay (0-5), Sean Lammy hit Carter Hanson on a 64-yard pass in the second half and Alex Crocker's kick made it 14-7. Later, Dylan Grant returned a kickoff 58 yards to complete the scoring.
Suttons Bay had four turnovers to Benzie's one. Shocko Shawandase led the Norsemen with 16 tackles while Cluadio Ruiz had 11.
Glen Lake 53 Mesick 0
Anthony Czapek rushed for 101 yards and three touchdowns as Glen Lake beat Mesick 53-0 in a Northwest Conference game called at half because of the weather.
Czapek scored on runs of 5, 37 and 24 yards. Quarterback Carter Lee scooted 32 yards for a touchdown and hit Tyler Stachnik from 33 yards out for another six points. Stachnik had a 64-yard punt return for a touchdown, too.
Travis Wiltjer went in from 12 yards as well.
Glen Lake (5-0, 3-0) rushed for 197 yards and passed for 63 for a net total of 260. Mesick was held to 39.
Grayling 35 Harbor Springs 21
Call them the comeback Cats.
For the third time this year, Grayling rallied for a win to stay unbeaten, this time a 35-21 Lake Michigan Conference win over Harbor Springs.
The Rams led 21-14 in the third quarter before the Vikings (5-0) picked up the offense.
Jake Swander finished with 26-for-40 passing for 378 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran one in. Ty Jensen caught eight passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns while also running eight times for 59 yards and a touchdown.
Tyler McClanahan caught eight passes for 129 yards and a touchdown while Scout Tobin added seven receptions for 115 yards.
Defensively, Brandon Handrich had 13 tackles while Kevin Harris had 12 tackles and an interception.
Kalkaska 27 Charlevoix 7
Zach Hill scored on runs of 4, 55 and 12 yards as Kalkaska beat Charlevoix 27-7 in Lake Michigan Conference play.
Hill rushed for 102 yards in 12 attempts and caught three passes for another 66 yards. He had eight tackles and an interception on defense.
Quarterback Will Noble completed 11 of 12 passes for 111 yards. He scored from a yard out.
Eric Tracie led the Blazers (4-1, 2-1) with 13 tackles. Allen McLain had 11.
For Charlevoix, Tanner Catt rushed for 56 yards and scored the lone Rayders (0-5, 0-3) touchdown on a 10-yard run. Charlie Hamilton rushed for 70 yards and caught three passes for 31 yards. Catt hauled in three for 37 yards.
Elk Rapids 56 East Jordan 6
Anthoy Digiovanni scored three touchdowns as Elk Rapids upended East Jordan 56-6 in a Lake Michigan Conference game.
Quarterback Eddie Shaw passed for two touchdowns — one to Loren Burfiend and the other Nate Wilson. Thais Grays, Kole Douglas and Sean Wells also scored on the ground.
Mancelona 56 Onaway 14
Wyatt Derrer scored five touchdowns as Mancelona stayed unbeaten with a 56-14 win over Onaway.
The win sets up a key showdown for the Ironmen (5-0) when Pickford (5-0) comes to town.
Derrer ran 19 times for 141 yards and the five scores. Logan Borst had 98 yards on 15 carries, Trevor Ackler had 11 carries for 83 yards and two touchdowns while Sam Day scored a touchdown.
Defensively, Kevin Schepperley had three tackles while Kyle Schepperley had an interception.
Forest Area 22 Gaylord St. Mary 18
Forest Area picked up its first win of the season with a 22-18 victory over Gaylord St. Mary.
After suffering an injury, the Warriors (1-4) got the win despite playing much of the game with just 11 players.
Justin Burke had three touchdowns and 310 all-purpose yards, including an 80-yard touchdown on a kick return. Senior Tyler Birgy ran three times for 67 yards and scored a two-point conversion.
Johannesburg 22 Central Lake 18
Mitch Hardy rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns as Johannesburg-Lewiston pulled out a 22-18 Ski Valley win over Central Lake.
Quarterback Alex Payne threw for 70 yards for the Cardinals (3-2, 1-1).
Drake Skowronski led the defense with 20 tackles.
Petoskey 33 Cheboygan 14
Petoskey got back on track with a 33-14 win over Cheboygan.
Tony DeAgostino ran in a pair of touchdowns for the Northmen and also caught one from Quinn Ameel.
Lake City 28 McBain 13
Junior Drew Marion threw three first-quarter touchdowns as Lake City defeated in-county rival McBain 28-13. The Trojans (5-0, 3-0 Highland) remained unbeaten and won at McBain for the first time since 1996.
Marion hit on 9-of-19 for 227 yards for the game and touchdown strikes of 8 and 7 yards to Nate Holt and 58 yards to Storm Francisco as Lake City took a 21-0 lead. Marion also rushed for 140 yards on 24 carries with a 2-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
Manton 41 Marion 6
Jake Truesdale rushed for 94 yards and touchdown as Manton defeated Marion 41-6 in a Highland Conference contest.
Alex Powell added 76 yards and a score on the ground. Quarterback Jonathan Jenkins completed four of six passes for 80 yards a touchdown — a 35-yard strike to Tristen Rosted,
Defensively, Alex Powell was in on seven tackles and Aaron Powell six.
Bellaire 50 Posen 40
Sophomore Chase Small rushed for 177 yards and three touchdowns and returned a kick 80 yards for a score as Bellaire beat Posen 50-40 in the Eight-Man Bridge Alliance Conference.
Small scored on runs of 85, 1 and 16 yards.
Quarterback Zach Smith had 106 rushing yards and had touchdown runs of 30 and 6. He also tossed a 21-yard TD pass to Wes Villafane.
Jacob Campis and Hunter Walsh led the Bellaire (3-2) defense with 16 tackles.
