Alba tops GT Academy in OT; Central Lake wins late


KINGSLEY — Kingsley opened up the girls basketball season with a 43-40 non-conference victory Wednesday over Manistee.

Autumn Goggin scored 15 points to lead the Stags (1-0), while Kenzie Meeker added 11 and Amanda Youker chipped in eight points and 17 rebounds.

Emilee Kott scored 15 for Manistee (1-1).

Kingsley hosts Traverse City St. Francis on Friday.


Alba      47 GT Academy      45

Kayla Harris had 21 points and eight steals to lead Alba to a 47-45 overtime victory over Grand Traverse Academy to open the season for both teams.

Naomi Marsh added nine points and 14 rebounds and Sydney Hogerheide scored nine points for Alba (1-0), which hosts Mackinaw City on Wednesday.

GT Academy was paced by Tiffany Wright's 14 points and 10 from Amelia Peck. The Mustangs (0-1) head to Lake Leelanau St. Mary's on Friday.

Central Lake      37 East Jordan      36

Senior captain Lauren Rogers knocked down a pair of free throws with two seconds left to give Central Lake a 37-36 victory over East Jordan.

Rogers scored 16 points and Jaynee Mortensen added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Trojans (1-0), who led 22-13 at halftime. Maura Barry dished out six assists.

Central Lake hosts Ellsworth on Friday.

Onaway      44 Rogers City      29

Onaway picked up its second win of the season, limiting Rogers City to nine first-half points in a 44-29 victory.

The Cardinals held a 14-1 lead after one quarter and 24-9 at the intermission.

Temara Lupu paced Onaway in scoring with eight points, while Megan Estep grabbed 12 rebounds.

The Cardinals (2-0) host Johannesburg-Lewiston on Friday.

Grayling      57 Roscommon      40

Grayling started its campaign with a 57-40 non-conference win over Roscommon.

Sam Denno led the Vikings with 10 points, while Maddie Benardo added eight points and 14 rebounds and Caitlin Prosser chipped in eight boards, six points and five assists.

Grayling (1-0) plays Suttons Bay in Kingsley on Saturday.
