BOYNE CITY — Traverse City St. Francis made its Lake Michigan Conference baseball title official on Wednesday, completing the last two innings of a 7-2 victory over Boyne City.
The game had been called after four innings earlier in the season because of darkness with St. Francis leading 6-2. The Gladiators (22-6, 12-2 LMC) scored an additional run when Robby Williams walked and scored on a double by Jake Duell.
Matt Seybert was the winning pitcher.
The Gladiators finished a game ahead of Grayling in the standings.
GLEN LAKE 9, PINE RIVER 2: Glen Lake got a tune-up for Saturday’s regional when it downed Leroy-Pine River 9-2.
Austin Odziana got the win, striking out eight and allowing only four hits.
Offensively for the Lakers (29-2-1), Tristan Williams had three hits and three RBIs, Travis Moore had two hits and three RBIs and Logan Lacross had two hits and an RBI.
Glen Lake faces Northwest Conference rival Frankfort in the regional semifinal at Frankfort.
U-M OUTING: The U of M Club of Grand Traverse’s annual golf outing is slated for Monday, June 16 at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club. Proceeds from the outing and the evening’s annual meeting benefit Grand Traverse area students attending the University of Michigan. Presenting sponsor is Grand Traverse Ophthalmology Clinic.
The event includes the golf outing as well as social hour and the club’s annual dinner meeting. Participation is open to all. Supporters may play in the golf outing, attend the dinner only or participate as a sponsor or donor.
The golf outing begins with a noon shotgun start, scramble format. Driving range and practice green are open at 11 a.m. Lunch can also be purchased at the halfway house beginning at 11 a.m. Golfers can form their own four-person team or be paired up in a team. Prizes will be awarded for first and last place teams, as well as longest drive and longest putt. A hole-in-one contest sponsored by Grand Traverse Motors offers the opportunity to win a lease on a Cadillac ATS. Cost is $125 per person including golf, cart, practice range, social time and dinner.
