Prep Sports Roundup: Waning tosses no-hitter for Glen Lake

BENZONIA — Thomas Waning threw a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Glen Lake beat Benzie Central 12-0 in the first game of a baseball doubleheader on Wednesday. Glen Lake also took the second game, 10-0.

For Glen Lake in the first game, Trevor Apsey had two hits and four RBIs, Travis Moore collected two hits and two RBIs, Austin Odziana slugged two hits and drove in a run and Tristan Williams had two hits.

In the second game, Odziana and Moore each had a double and three RBIs, and Apsey and Williams each collected two hits and an RBI. Zach Cooper got the win, striking out six and allowing three hits.

Glen Lake (20-1-1, 7-0-1 Northwest) is at Mancelona today.


TC West 2

Cadillac 0

Keegan Kenny threw a complete-game shutout as Traverse City West posted a 2-0 win over Cadillac.

Kenny scattered five hits and struck out eight for West (15-6-1, 7-0 Big North)

Paul Soma led the West offense with two hits. Wes Talbot and Jeff Turnquist each added hits and Max Ludka had an RBI.

The Titans host a tournament on Saturday that includes Marquette, East Grand Rapids and Newaygo.

Charlevoix 18 2

Kalkaska 0 3

J.J. Bottomley threw a no-hitter with six strikeouts as Charlevoix opened a twinbill against Kalkaska with an 18-0 win. The Blazers took the nightcap 3-2.

Bottomley didn’t walk anyone in his five innings of work.

At the plate, Christian Matye led the way with three hits. Will Telgenhof had two hits and four RBIs, Noah Certa had two hits and scored three runs, Austin Putman had two hits and two RBIs, Devin Largent had two hits, three runs and two RBIs and Luke Klinger had two hits and two runs.

Kalkaska scored all three of its runs in the first inning of the second game. Charlevoix answered with two runs in the fourth on a two-run homer by Nate Moon, but couldn’t generate any more runs.
