TRAVERSE CITY — J. Ping shot a 2-under 69 to earn medalist honors and lead Kalkaska to a first-place team finish at the Traverse City Central Invitational on Monday at Traverse City Country Club.
Bryce Hunter tied for fifth with an 80 for the Blazers, who had a score of 313, while Mitchell Dunn had an 81 and Michael Dunn an 83.
The host Trojans were second with a 322. Derek Schrank led Central with a third-place round of 77. Danny Brott tied for fifth with an 80, Abe Lewis carded an 81 and Chase Knoblock an 84.
Parker Guss led St. Francis to a third-place team score of 334. Guss shot a 75 to finish as the meet runner-up. Joe Coates (82), Noah Phillips (88) and Ryan Navin (89) rounded out the Gladiators’ scores.
Suttons Bay had a score of 354, which put it fourth. Devin Capron had a 78, which was good for fourth individually. Lars Thornton (84), Chris Jasinski (92) and Clyde Woods (100) were the Norsemen’s other counters.
Leland, which was sixth with a 362, was led by Tyler Leveque’s 93.
TC West finished first out of the junior varsity teams at the meet. West’s Gold team shot a 336, led by Austin Webb’s 81. Jacob Martin had an 82, Zach Perrin an 83 and Hunter Krekow a 90. Central was second with a 401. Joey Schepperly led the Trojans with a 93. Garret Porter had a 101, Jack Hawley a 103 and Bronson Wood a 104.
West’s Green team finished with a 455. Scorers for the Titans were: Evan Culp (92), Jacob Dean (118), Andrew Gillings (122) and Justin Edick (123).
Benzie Central 0
Libby Munoz had a hat trick and assisted on two more goals as Leland downed Benzie Central 6-0.
Munoz had both of the Comets’ first-half goals as they took a 2-0 lead at the half.
Whitney Schaub finished with two goals — one on a penalty kick — and had one assist. Mariela Corona had the other Leland goal. Miranda Harrison added two assists for the Comets (14-2-2, 6-0-2 Northwest).
