WEST BRANCH — West’s Joey Hunter shared medalist honors with Central’s Derek Shrank — both carded 76s — as the Titans won the Ogemaw Heights Invitational at the West Branch Country Club on Thursday.
The Titans shot a team score of 318, five strokes ahead of Petoskey and 10 ahead of Traverse City Central.
“The weather was awesome, though the course was a little wet,” said West coach Mike Schultz. “It was nice to see us get a win out of it today. That was our third different medalist (in Big North matches). It’s nice to watch different guys step up and put up good numbers.”
Alex Scott came in with a 77, which tied for third overall. Keits Shoemaker followed with an 81 and Matt Orwig shot an 84. After Schrank, Central had Danny Brott with an 83, Abe Lewis with an 84 and Bauer Jones with an 85.
In the junior varsity portion of the meet, West took first with a 368. Sawyer Robinson was the JV medalist with an 85. Sammy Schriber had a 93, Hunter Krekow fired a 94 and Jared Swanson had a 96. Central’s JV had a 411, which was good for 10th. Chase Knoblock led the way with a 92, Mark Machin had a 100, Joey Schepperley carded a 108 and Buddy Rose a 111.
West and Central are both at the Gaylord Invitational on Saturday.

Abby Palisin became the third Traverse City Central tennis player to reach 100 career wins in the last couple weeks as the Trojans beat Petoskey 8-0 to finish 4-0 in Big North Conference dual meets.
Palisin and Devon Dotterrer (26-3) took No. 2 doubles with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Also victorious for the Trojans: Paige Cooley (6-0, 6-3), Kitty Mast (6-2, 6-0), Christi Druskovich (6-2, 6-4), Taylor Weckstein (6-1, 6-1), Amelia Pezzetti-Elizabeth Pappas (6-0, 7-5), Isabel Lutz-Molly Whiting (6-3, 6-3) and Caroline Gardner-Aleksa Szunko (6-4, 6-1).
The league tournament is Tuesday at Cadillac. Central competes at Holly on Saturday.
