Prep Sports Roundup: TC West keeps rolling

CADILLAC — Traverse City West’s run through the Big North Conference continued as the Titans edged Cadillac 2-1.

Katie Placek and Eva Brunetti notched goals for West (11-1-1, 8-0-0 Big North), with Kiley Kreple and Runa Hafnor assisting.

The Titans led 2-0 until the final minute of the first half as Cadillac got on the board on a goal from Gabrielle Sake.

From there the Titans kept the Vikings out of the net as Maggie Troost made 13 saves, and the defense of Chloe Slack, Mikaela Ray, Mikenna Ray and Nicole Sanford stymied the Cadillac attack.

Cadillac won the junior varsity game 4-0.

West hosts TC Central on Thursday.

 

Gaylord 2

TC Central 1

Brandi Wagner scored off an assist from Maddi Hamilla with 19:02 left as Gaylord edged Traverse City Central 2-1 in a Big North Conference match.

Hamilla netted the first goal of the game on an assist from Lexi Mang. Central (4-10-1, 3-4-1) tied it on a penalty kick by Elena Morcote.

Gaylord won the JV match 5-2. Megan Puckett and Dana Pflughoeft tallied for Central (6-5), which is at West on Thursday.

 

Petoskey 1

Elk Rapids 0

Petoskey netted the only goal of the game with 13:38 left in the first half as the Northmen edged Elk Rapids 1-0.

Paige Granger made 18 saves in goal for the Elks (8-3), who host Kingsley on Friday.

Petoskey put 11 shots on goal in the first half and seven in the second.

 

Charlevoix 4

TC Liberty 0

Leah Davis and Kelsey Engstrom each netted two goals as Charlevoix defeated TC Liberty 4-0 in a Lake Michigan Conference match.

Both goals by Davis came off throw-ins from Kylee Scholten. Gloria Greene had 11 saves in goal for the Rayders (9-3-1, 8-1).

 

GOLF

Norse win Northwest meet

This doesn’t happen very often.

For the third time in five Northwest Conference golf meets, Suttons Bay edged Leland by one stroke to claim overall honors.

On Tuesday, the Norsemen shot a 171 at the Leelanau Club. Leland was right behind at 172. The Comets were followed by Frankfort (192), Glen Lake (198), Mesick (206), Kingsley (211) and Benzie Central (219).
