TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City West got a medalist performance from Keits Shoemaker, and three of four scores under 80 as the Titans shot a season-low 299 to win the TC West Invitational on Saturday on a rainy day at Mistwood Golf Club.
Shoemaker shot a 1-under-par 70 to lead the Titans and the field. West also had a 73 from Matt Orwig, a 74 from Alex Scott and an 82 from Zach Perrin.
“I’m really proud of the boys. They really played well,” said West head coach Mike Schultz. “We’ve struggled to get into the low 300s. Having a home course advantage helped out the boys quite a bit. The best thing about it is they fought through the elements.”
West finished 28 strokes ahead of Petoskey and Traverse City Central, which both shot 327s. Petoskey won the tiebreaker for second with its fifth-man score. St. Francis was fifth with a 336.
Derek Schrank finished tied for fifth with a 76 to pace the Central scorers. Danny Brott had an 80, Abe Lewis an 81 and Jordan Bultsma a 90.
Jacob Martin was the medalist of the junior varsity meet, shooting an 81 for the West Gold team, which was first out of the junior varsity teams with a 358. Austin Webb (82), Sawyer Robinson (85) and Justin Edick (110) rounded out the Gold scorers. The West Green team was second with a 377. Sammy Schriber led the Green with a 91, Evan Culp had a 92, Jared Swanson a 96, Hunter Krekow a 98 and Andrew Gillings a 98.
The Central Black was sixth with a 408. Scorers for that team were Chase Knoblock with a 95, Jack Hawley with a 102, Garret Porter a 105 and Bronson Wood with a 106.
Finishing ninth was the TC Central White team, which came in with a 507. Trystian Stanley had a 121, John Kushner had a 126, Canyon O’Brien had a 129 and Luke Smith had a 131.
