College Notes: Otwell wins 1,500 meters at Jesse Owens Classic


Madonna: Travis Schuba (Kalkaska) took the loss for Madonna in a 2-1 setback against Aquinas. The loss dropped Schuba to 5-2 on the year. He worked .2 innings, gave up one run and one hit. Schuba also pitched in a 6-4 loss to Indiana Tech, throwing 4.2 innings, alowing four hits and three runs.

Spring Arbor: Greg Blanco (Mancelona) improved to 5-0 with a two-hit masterpiece in a 4-0 victory against Grace College. Blanco fanned six in the win.

Wayne State: Kyle Zimmerman (Frankfort) gave the Warriors a lead, but the bullpen couldn’t hold it in a 4-3 loss to Ohio Dominican. Zimmerman struck out five in 6.1 innings, giving up five hits and two runs. He also was 2 for 3 with two runs and a walk at the plate. In the second game, a 7-3 win, he was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a walk. Zimmerman was 2 for 5 with two RBIs in another game against Dominican earlier in the week, giving him six hits in 11 at-bats in his last three games.


Georgia: Joey Garber (Petoskey) led the Bulldogs to the finals of the Capital City Club Match Play Championship. Garber defeated No. 19 Florida State’s Jack Maguire 2 and 1 in the semifinals for Georgia lost to No. 5 Georgia Tech.

Hope: Freshman Winton Munch (TC Central) shot a 1-under-par 71 to lead Hope College to a fourth-place finish at the A.C. Eddy Invitational in Angola, Ind. Munch also placed fourth overall. Sophomore Paul Bardenhagen (Leland) added a 75 to tie for 25th.

Indiana Tech: Courtney Dye (TC Central) placed third overall to help the Warriors win the Millikin University Spring Classic by seven strokes. Dye fired a two-round total of 151.

Saginaw Valley: Carter Marsh (Cadillac) led the Cardinals with a two-round 150 as Saginaw Valley placed sixth in the GLIAC Spring Invitational.


Lawrence Tech: Collin Peters (TC West) had an assist in the Blue Devils’ 10-6 win over Michigan-Dearborn and another in the team’s 20-7 win over Ferris State.
