ONAWAY — Onaway, ranked No. 5 in Class D, handed Forest Area its first Ski Valley Conference volleyball setback Tuesday 25-21, 25-27, 25-12, 25-15.

The loss dropped the Warriors to 23-7-1, 3-1 in the league.

Forest Area was led by Kourtni Birgy (six kills, 20 digs, three aces), Megan Gifford (10 digs, 12 assists), Tabitha Cecil (12 kills, seven blocks), Emily Gonyer (23 digs), Jackie Hyatt (three kills, three blocks) and Dani Johne (10 assists).


St. Francis      3 Grayling      0

St. Francis picked up a 25-19, 25-17, 25-10 Lake Michigan Conference win over Grayling.

The Glads (22-4-3, 4-0 LMC) had 14 kills and three digs from Bridget Bussell, five kills from Sophie Spencer, four aces from Olivia Hardy, three kills from Leah Schmerheim and 28 assists, five aces, two blocks and three kills from Katilyn Hegewald.

Charlevoix visits St. Francis on Thursday.

St. Francis won the JV match 25-20, 25-23, 16-14. Karissa Buell had nine kills and nine assists, Rosemary Wilson had eight kills and three blocks while Madeline Zamarron had six kills.

Leland     3 Frankfort     0

Leland stayed perfect in the Northwest Conference with a 25-7, 25-16, 25-21 win over Frankfort.

The Comets (23-5-2, 3-0) were led by Noa Yaakoby (three aces, six kills), Brooke Olesnavage (three aces, 13 kills), Andrea Hunt (five kills, three digs), Caitlin McKee (18 assists, five digs), Whitney Schaub (three kills) and Felicia Whittaker (five kills).

Leland competes at Cadillac on Saturday.

Benzie Central      3 Suttons Bay      1

Benzie Central rallied for a 23-25, 26-24, 25-11, 25-11 Northwest Conference win over Suttons Bay.

The Huskies (14-3-9) had 32 assists and 10 digs from Molly Lehn, 10 kills, 15 digs and four aces from Jenna Gauthier, 18 kills, 12 digs and six aces from Maddy Lutzke, 21 digs from Maggie Geetings and seven kills from Autumn Hagelstein.

Suttons Bay was sparked by Jayne McFarlane (22 of 23 serving with nine aces, 16 assists, 15 digs), Kailey Capron (8 of 9 serving, four kills, two digs), Larissa Hunter (14 of 15 serving with three aces, seven kills, six digs), Chantal Konopka (5 of 7 serving with one ace, three kills, 16 digs) and Angela Hernandez (10 of 10 serving with two aces, four digs).

Eight different Traverse City Central players scored in an 8-0 Big North win over Ogemaw Heights.

Andre Passos, Jephte Jean-Claude, Jack Dulude, Brody Gates, Adam Stepan, Grant Dulude, Matt Grist and Reilly DeTar tallied for the Trojans (7-4-2, 5-0-1). Carl Gardner and Kalvis Hornburg split time in goal. Ryan Haworth was credited with a strong game at midfield. Central outshot the Falcons 18-2.

Bellaire      6 Roscommon      1

Bellaire moved to 4-1 in the Northern Michigan Soccer League with a 6-1 win over Roscommon.

The Eagles (9-4) had four goals from Denny Hall. Christoph Radtke also scored on a Hunter Rose assist while Carrick Conway netted a penalty kick.

Adam Crandall and Nic Underwood split time in net.


TCC JV Gold     4 Ludington JV     4

The Traverse City Central JV won three doubles flights en route to a 4-4 tie with Ludington.

Central winners included: Spencer Kroupa, Nen Brown/Ben Grams, Ben Cockfield/Andrew Froese and Nate Michno/Nick Friedli.
