Leland’s Jolliffe nets 40th goal in 2-1 win

LELAND — Dylan Jolliffe notched his 40th goal of the season Monday as Leland edged Suttons Bay 2-1 in a Greater Northwest Conference soccer match.

Luke Nesbitt assisted on Jolliffe's second-half goal. Matt Fleis also tallied for the Comets (13-2, 5-1) off an assist from Tony Masqueda.

Martin Stowe netted the Suttons Bay goal.

Mike Farese was in goal for Leland, which hosts Glen Lake next Monday.

Northport     11 Buckley     5

Alex Thelander and Bill Stowe scored four goals apiece as Northport beat Buckley 11-5 in a Greater Northwest Conference match.

Jacob Brown, Andy Sleder and Armando Hernandez also tallied for the Wildcats (6-3, 2-3). Stowe and Hernandez contributed two assists.


Central fires 357, West 371 at invite

Courtney Dye tied for third with a 77 as Traverse City Central tied for fourth in the East Lansing Invitational at Walnut Hills.

The Trojans shot a 357. Traverse City West came in at 371.

In addition to Dye's 77, Amelia Pezzetti shot 85, Ally Schultz 97 and Nonie Tompkins 100. Abby Palisin, playing as an individual, shot 98.

For West, Taylor Kehoe fired an 86, Laura Krieber 91, Amanda Gross 96 and Emily Dean 98.

Central placed fifth Saturday in a tournament at Grosse Ile with a 368. Dye carded an 86, Pezzetti 89, Schultz 97 and Palisin 99.

Central hosts an invitational Friday at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club.


TC West     3 Gaylord     0

Traverse City West tuned up for its upcoming match with Traverse City Central by sweeping Gaylord 25-10, 25-19, 25-16 in Big North Conference play.

The Titans (4-6, 3-2) were led by Katie Placek (10 kills, seven digs, five blocks), Kimmy Bilinski (10 digs), Ally Peters (19 assists, eight digs, seven aces), Courtney VanHouzen (seven kills) and Anna O'Hara (six kills).

The West JV (16-1, 5-0) beat Gaylord 25-13, 25-18, 25-8. Kelly O'Hara had 25 assists, eight aces, three digs, two kills; Maggie Gray six kills, four digs, two aces; Carley Drzewiecki six kills, nine digs; Emily Cybak five kills, two aces, two digs.

The West freshmen posted a 25-13, 21-25, 25-17 win. The Titans were paced by Emma VanderMeulen (eight assists), Emily Nunemaker (seven kills), Sarah Peters (eight assists).

West hosts Central on Wednesday.
