---- — CENTRAL LAKE — MacKenzie Verellen was nearly perfect on Monday.
Bellaire’s starting pitcher allowed one hit, walked none and struck out 11 as the Eagles defeated Boyne Falls 10-0 in a five-inning Division IV district softball semifinal.
The tournament was moved from Saturday after Central Lake’s wet fields were deemed unplayable.
Verellen also singled and drove in a run for Bellaire (10-14), which faces Central Lake today at 4:30 p.m. for the district championship.
Katie Thornton hit two doubles and drove in two runs, Haley Myas had a double among two hits and drove in two runs and Madalyn Balon had a double among two hits. Also for the Eagles, Amber Tipton had a single and two RBIs, Ali Lampman had a single and an RBI, Lindsay Lampman doubled and Michaela Watson singled.
Central Lake advanced to the final by beating Mancelona 5-4 in the other semifinal.
Mancelona (14-5) led 3-0 in the sixth, but Central Lake (13-10) scored four times with the aid of four errors to take a 4-3 lead.
Alexis Carpenter got the win for the Trojans, striking out 10 and allowing six hits. She also went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer. Other key hitters for Central Lake were Emma Pierson, who had a sacrifice bunt that scored Delaney Buffman with the go-ahead run, and Haley Bearden with an RBI.
Kallie Derrer took the loss for Mancelona despite pitching well. She allowed only one hit, struck out nine and walked two. Of the five runs she gave up, only two were earned.
Derrer helped her cause with a hit and scored two runs. Ashley Joseph led the offense with two hits.
