TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City West put the wraps on a perfect 12-0 Big North Conference volleyball season Wednesday night with a 25-22, 25-7, 25-14 win over Gaylord.
“Honestly, the conference has gotten stronger,” Titans coach Emily Baumann said. “A lot of the teams have improved. They’ve made us a better team because they’ve pushed us to play better. I’m super proud of the team. Being 12-0 is not easy. Everyone is out to get you in the second round once you go 6-0.”
West was led by Anna O’Hara (21 kills, five digs), Matti Mokanyk (32 assists, five digs), Ally Peters (19 digs), Kimmy Bilinski (six kills, nine digs) and Katie Placek (eight kills, eight digs, four blocks).
West opens district play Monday at Alpena.
The Titans JV team completed play with an 11-1 league record after a 25-14, 25-18, 25-14 win over Gaylord.
Emily Nunemaker (five kills, nine digs), Emma VanderMuelen (one ace, one kill, 30 assists, 10 digs), Kara Rickenberg (one kill, four digs), Makenna Mattson (one ace, two kills, seven digs), Sarah Patten (four aces, five kills, one assist, three digs) and Stephanie DeVries (two kills, one assist, three digs) powered the Titans.
Gladiators sweep quad at Suttons Bay
St. Francis tuned up for next week’s district by sweeping a quad at Suttons Bay
The Gladiators (36-14-1) beat Suttons Bay 25-23, 25-15; Leland 25-12, 25-12; and Lake City 25-13, 25-18.
“They played great,” St. Francis co-coach Heather Simpson said. “It’s nice to see them play this well. They brought it tonight.”
St. Francis, which hosts Glen Lake in a first-round district game Monday, was paced by Madeline Rysztak (32 kills, 11 digs, eight blocks), Olivia Hardy (six blocks, seven kills), Sophie Spencer (nine kills, six aces), Haley Bussell (20 digs, six kills, two blocks), Nicole Ehardt (11 digs, nine aces).
Leland won two of three matches, beating Lake City 25-17, 25-15 and Suttons Bay 24-26, 25-13, 15-6.
