Roundup: Glads open with a win

KALKASKA — St. Francis kicked off its season on Saturday with a 82-58 win over Suttons Bay in the Northwest vs. Lake Michigan Conference Crossover Challenge at Kalkaska.

The Glads (1-0) led 34-12 at the half.

Byron Bullough led all scorers with 20 points while Kody Kleinrichert had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Austin Currie and Connor Archer each scored 11 points.

Suttons Bay had 15 points from Aaron Orban while Martin Stowe and Logan Mikesell each had 12 points.

In the JV game, St. Francis won 60-32. Josh Vanz had 25 points and Michael Olm added 12 points.


Grayling      56 Benzie Central      45

Grayling went on a 16-6 run in the third quarter for a 56-45 win over Benzie Central in the Northwest vs. Lake Michigan Conference Crossover Challenge.

"I give Benzie a lot of credit, they play hard," Vikings coach Rich Moffit said. "We like to run, but we had to grind that out."

The Huskies led 29-26 at the half before the Vikings (2-0) went on a run in the third quarter.

Jake Swander paced Grayling with 20 points and three assists. Scott Parkinson had 16 points and seven steals, Tyler McClanahan had 14 points and Justice Juntilla had seven rebounds.

Jared Weaver scored 15 points for the Huskies.

Kalkaska      48 Mesick      45

Host Kalkaska held on for a 48-45 win over Mesick in the Northwest vs. Lake Michigan Conference Crossover Challenge.

The Blazers (2-1) had 20 points from Caleb Gelinas while Marlon Reese had eight points and six rebounds.

Mesick had 24 points from Thane Herbert while Andre Whittaker had 14 points.

Kalkaska plays at St. Francis on Tuesday.

Dexter      62 TC Central      60

Dexter held off a late charge from host TC Central for a 62-60 victory.

The Dreadnaughts were in town for a pair of games after losing to TC West on Friday.

The Trojans (1-1) trailed by 10 points in the fourth quarter, but rallied and had a chance to tie or take the lead in the final minute.

Ethan Pilarski had 21 points, 11 rebounds and five steals for the Trojans while Taylor Cook scored 11 and Tanner Kenney had 10 points.

Dexter won the JV game 44-38. TC Central had 10 points from Jackson Schrameyer.

In the freshman game, Dexter won 40-30. The Trojans had eight points from David Klug.


GR Ottawa Hills      41 TC West      38

Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills picked up a 41-38 win over visiting TC West.

The Titans (0-3) had 20 points and 12 rebounds from Katie Placek while Paris Wagner pulled down five rebounds.

Shawnae Joseph led Ottawa Hills with 19 points, including five 3-pointers.

TC West also lost the JV game, 29-24. Kari Cannon and Mikenna Ray each had eight points.


TC Central notches win at Mason Co. Central

TC Central ended the day on a high note with a 48-12 win over Mason Co. Eastern at the Mason Co. Central Invitational.

The invite was a 10-team format with four matches of round robin, followed by a crossover match.

James Weston-Barber (112), Andre Passos (160), Joab Harrington (215) and Austin Weir (285) all had a win for the Trojans.

TC West seventh at Pinconning

TC West took eight wrestlers to the Pinconning Invitational and finished seventh out of 15 teams.

The Titans had a flight winner at 103 with Vincent Priante. Jonah Jasmin was second at 119 while Zach Provost (145) and Ryan Drake (215) took fifth.

Tyler Post (112) and Brandon Barth (171) finished sixth while Mike Lambert (130) and Jonah Tannis (189) each scored a win.

Forest Area third at Manton

Forest Area placed third at the Manton Invitational.

The Warriors had second place finishes from Landon Elliott (119), Matthew Elliott (135), Nick Ames (215) and Reese Velfling (285). Tyler Leffingwell (135), Chris Schelske (160), Dion Burke (171) and Brandon Ames (189) all took third.


Houghton      5 TC Central      1

Houghton broke a 1-1 tie in the second period and tacked on three more third-period goals for a 5-1 win over TC Central in the Rick Miller Memorial Tournament.

The Trojans (5-1) gave up a goal in the first period, but came right back to tie it 28 seconds later when Mitchell Ward scored off assists from Cam Givens and Nico Saco.

Bill Vermetten made 25 saves for TC Central.


TC West Green stays unbeaten

TC West's Green bowling team stayed unbeaten with two wins at the GWNBC meet at Manistee.

The Titans beat TC Central Black 22.5-7.5 and Kingsley 29-1. Ben Mohrhardt had a 179 against Kingsley while Chris Grigsby had a 178 against the Trojans.

TC Central Black beat TC Central Gold 30-0 behind a 305 series from Brad Wozniak.

TC West's Gold went 1-1 with a win over Glen Lake and a loss to TC Christian Maroon. Jordan Newstead had a 351 series while Ken Savoie had a 184 game.

TC Christian had a 195 from Jared Argyle in its loss. Against St. Francis in a 22.5-7.5 win, Brett Bultsma had a 412 series. The Glads countered with a 196 from Leah Schmerheim.

St. Francis tied TC West White with a 181 from Bailey Johnson.

Bellaire beat Elk Rapids Orange 20-10 and TC Christian Gold 23-7. Jared Moody had a 357 series while Caleb Gothrup had a 219 game.

Elk Rapids beat Benzie Central 25-5 with a 223 from Austin Wolfgram. Also, Kingsley beat Benzie 26-4 and TC Christian Gold beat Glen Lake 17-13.

In the girls meet, TC Central beat Glen Lake (18.5-11.5) and Benzie Central (28-2) behind a 154 from Hope Eschleman. Erika Bailey had a 147 for Glen Lake.

TC West Green topped Benzie Central 29.5-0.5 and Bellaire 30-0. Corrine Schrotenboer had a 317 series.

Bellaire beat St. Francis 30-0 as Kristen Schlegel had a 348 series. Glen Lake and TC West Gold tied at 15-15.
