CADILLAC — Traverse City West threw a monkeywrench into Cadillac's Big North Conference girls basketball title hopes Tuesday.
Katie Placek had 15 points and eight rebounds as the Titans went on the road for a 36-29 win over the Vikings. Cadillac entered the game with one league loss, the same as Petoskey.
"It was a hard fought game," West coach Dave Ginsberg said. "We played terrific defense. We may have knocked them out of a championship."
Kimmy Bilinski added 10 points for West (7-10, 7-3). Kiley Kreple contributed seven rebounds.
Hannah Baker scored 10 points for Cadillac.
Cadillac won the JV game 43-33. Jodi Turnquist netted 11 points for the Titans, who travel to Gaylord on Thursday.
West won the freshman game 40-37. Marie Savoie had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Abby Moyes nine points and 11 rebounds.
TC Central 54 Gaylord 39
Down 33-31 entering the final quarter, Traverse City Central closed on a 23-6 run to score a come-from-behind 54-39 Big North Conference win over Gaylord.
"We did a good job finishing," Central coach Ryan Knudsen said.
Madi Bankey led the Trojans with 18 points. Jesse Hiemstra added 13 and Tyler Rawlings eight. McKenzie Edwards finished with 16 for Gaylord.
Gaylord won the JV game 39-35. Carrie Wynkoop's 12 points topped the Trojans.
Central claimed the freshman game 50-9 as Emily Jenkins led the way with 16 points. Montana Brumfield had 11 boards.
Kingsley 64 Leland 27
Autumn Goggin's 22 points and six steals sparked Kingsley to a 64-27 Northwest Conference win over Leland.
Katie Travis and Andrea Lee added nine points apiece. Travis also had five steals and Lee eight rebounds.
Libby Munoz and Whitney Schaub netted seven for Leland (5-12).
Kingsley (14-3, 10-1) hosts Buckley on Thursday.
Glen Lake 59 Mesick 23
Scotlyn Brengman moved closer to the 1,000 career point mark by scoring 18 in Glen Lake's 59-23 Northwest Conference win over Mesick.
Brengman is now three shy of the milestone. She also had six rebounds in the triumph. Jordan Peplinski contributed 11 points and nine rebounds and Katie Stowe nine points for the Lakers (13-4, 9-2), who host Frankfort Thursday.
Abby Trowbridge had six points for Mesick.
Benzie Central 70 Buckley 43
Benzie Central pulled away in the third quarter for a 70-43 Northwest Conference win over Buckley.
The Huskies outscored the Bears 23-7 in the third stanza to stretch a 32-21 cushion to 55-28.
Jordan Nye finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Huskies (11-6, 9-3), who host Mesick on Thursday.
Mary Warsecke added 15 points and Maggie Geetings 11 points, six rebounds and five steals.
Jordyn Barley scored 12 points and Marlee Harris 11 for Buckley.
Frankfort 56 Suttons Bay 37
The Kelly sisters combined for 29 points as Frankfort defeated Suttons Bay 56-37 in a Northwest Conference contest.
Keelan Kelly tossed in 15 points and McKenna Kelly 14 for the Panthers (11-7).
Jane Hursey led Suttons Bay with 10 points. Delaney Kaufman chipped in 14 rebounds. The Norse are at Leland on Thursday.
Kalkaska 53 Harbor Springs 38
Kelli Guy lit it up for 34 points as Kalkaska upended Harbor Springs 53-38 in a Lake Michigan Conference game.
Guy also had seven steals for the Blazers (12-3, 7-1). Tabitha Kibby chipped in seven points, seven assists and five rebounds. Taylor Birgy pulled down 11 rebounds.
Layne Compton topped the Rams with 12 points.
Kalkaska travels to Elk Rapids on Friday.
Gaylord St. Mary 57 Forest Area 17
Gaylord St. Mary improved to 14-1 in the Ski Valley Conference with a 57-17 win over Forest Area.
Kari Borowiak led the Snowbirds (16-2 overall) with 24 points, six steals and six assists. Chrissi Smith added 14 points and four assists and Mary Spyhalski eight points and seven rebounds.
Emily Gonyer netted 10 points and Kortni Birgy 15 rebounds for Forest Area, which travels to Pellston on Thursday. St. Mary is at Inland lakes.
Johannesburg 66 Pellston 21
Abby Schlicher went over the 1,000-point milestone in Johannesburg-Lewiston's 66-21 Ski Valley win over Pellston.
Schlicher finished with 20 points, nine steals and five rebounds. She needed 16 to reach 1,000. Katie Kierczynski added eight points for the Cardinals (17-1, 14-1). All five seniors started. All 13 players scored. Hannah Huff grabbed eight rebounds.
The Cardinals travel to Mancelona on Thursday.
Bellaire 38 Mancelona 20
Leighten Koepke's nine points, four steals and two assists paced Bellaire to a 38-20 Ski Valley win over Mancelona.
Miranda Washburn added six points, seven rebounds and four steals for the Eagles (11-7, 9-7), who host Onaway on Thursday.
Vanessa Bachelor scored six for Mancelona.
Central Lake 46 Inland Lakes 40
Senior point guard Lauren Rogers scored 20 points to power Central Lake to a 46-40 Ski Valley win over Inland Lakes.
Rogers was perfect on six free throw attempts in the fourth quarter.
Haley Bearden added 11 points for the Trojans (10-7, 7-7).
Sarah Kolb paced Inland Lakes with 16. Sandy Bischoff had 11.
Central Lake is at Ellsworth tonight.
Onaway 55 Rogers City 31
Onaway raised its record to 14-4 with a 55-31 win over Rogers City.
Emily Estep and Mariah Ehrke had 11 points apiece for the Cardinals, who are at Bellaire on Thursday. Ehrke also grabbed 11 rebounds.
LL St. Mary 47 GT Academy 42
Hannah Weber scored 18 points to spark Lake Leelanau St. Mary to a 47-42 win over Grand Traverse Academy.
Tiffany Wright netted 16 for Grand Traverse Academy (2-12), which plays the TC Bulldogs on Friday.
Ellsworth 56 Alba 40
Kendra Warner's 17 points led Ellsworth to a 56-40 Northern Lakes win over Alba.
Tara Essenberg added 11 points and Kari Steenwyck 14 rebounds for the Lancers (8-7, 6-3), who host Central Lake tonight.
Boyne City 49 Elk Rapids 43
Boyne City hits its free throws down the stretch to hang on for a 49-43 Lake Michigan Conference win over Elk Rapids.
Brad Fouchia led the Ramblers with 16 points. Ryan Carson added 12.
Jesse Starr paced the Elks (8-8, 5-6) with eight points.
The Elks, who held Corey Redman to seven points, trailed 34-32 entering the fourth quarter.
Elk Rapids hosts Kalkaska on Friday. The Red Devils host St. Francis on Friday.
Charlevoix 77 East Jordan 52
Charlie Hamilton tossed in 25 points as Charlevoix defeated East Jordan 77-52 in a Lake Michigan Conference contest.
Hamilton hit five 3-pointers in the first half as the Rayders built a 33-21 lead at half. Charlevoix put it away with a 28-10 surge in the third quarter.
Matt Bosler paced East Jordan with 17.
Frankfort 65 Onekama 60
Frankfort built a 39-21 lead at half and then held off Onekama 65-60 in a non-league game.
David Loney's 20 points and 12 rebounds paced the Panthers (13-1). Owen Stratton added 14 points and 10 rebounds and Brandon Schaub 11 points.
Quinn Mathews netted 21 for Onekama.
Frankfort hit 7-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter and owned a 38-25 advantage in rebounding. The Panthers host Mesick on Friday.
Kingsley 68 Houghton Lake 42
Travis DeBello knocked down 21 points and Tristan Eickenroth 20 as Kingsley went on the road for a 68-42 non-league win over Houghton Lake.
Buckley 48 Northport 36
Austin Burmania netted 17 points and Michael Baldinger 16 as Buckley posted a 48-36 non-league win over Northport.
Bill Stowe's 14 led Northport.
TC Christian 64 Leland 62
TC Christian's Paul Bump scored the winning basket in the closing seconds for a 64-62 victory over Leland.
With the game tied at 62 and 7 seconds to go, Jesse Heerdt stole the ball for the Sabres (9-4) and threw it to an open Bump for the win.
Bump finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists while Kris Crosby had 16 points and 13 rebounds.
For the Comets, Ian Duvall had 16 points while Cam Stowe scored 15.
LL St. Mary's 69 TC Prep 24
Lake Leelanau St. Mary's rolled to a 69-24 win over TC Prep.
Brandon McSawby had 25 points for the Eagles while Drew Pobuda had 13 points.
Richard Steffe had 13 points for TC Prep.
Lake City 65 Evart 41
Ryan Vincent rang up 13 points and Drew Marion tallied 12 as Lake City defeated visiting Evart 65-41 in Highland play. Vincent and Marion each grabbed eight boards also.
Junior guard Kevin Kunkel added nine for the Trojans (11-4, 6-4) while Dylan Allard hit for eight and Nate Holt for seven.
Nate Struble scored 12 to lead the Wildcats (5-8, 3-5).
Lake City has a makeup game at Harrison tonight before playing host to Pine River (13-2, 8-2) in a much-anticipated league game on Friday.
