Prep Hockey Roundup: Trojans beat Port Huron

TRENTON — Cooper Macdonell was in on all four goals as Traverse City Central scored a 4-1 win over Port Huron Northern at the MIHL Showcase.

Macdonell had two goals and two assists for the Trojans (19-2).

"He's really playing well right now," Central coach Chris Givens said. "He's had a really good year, but the last few games, he's turned it up a notch."

Nico Saco had a goal and two assists, Cam Givens had a goal and an assist while Derek Schrank had an assist.

Bill Vermetten made 34 saves to get the win.

Central, ranked No. 2 in Division 2, plays third-ranked and host Trenton today.

Saginaw Heritage      5 Bay Reps      4

Saginaw Heritage was 3-of-7 on the power play in a 5-4 win over the Bay Reps at the MIHL Showcase in Trenton.

The Reps scored the game's first two and last two goals, but the Hawks lit the lamp five times in between.

Nate Wilson struck twice in the first period — with Zack Hill and John Van Raalte picking up assists — for a 2-0 lead.

Trevor Apsey scored unassisted in the third period and Wilson closed out a hat trick with a power-play score set up by Nick Sicinski and Apsey.

Jay Jones made 18 saves in goal for the Reps, who play Allen Park today at 8:40 a.m.

Grosse Pointe South      3 TC West      2

Traverse City West stormed back from a 3-0 deficit, but couldn't quite complete the rally in a 3-2 setback to No. 8-ranked Grosse Pointe South at the MIHL Showcase in Trenton.

The Blue Devils led 3-0 on a pair of Andre Hyde scores and a Max Corden goal before the Titans came back with third-period goals by Collin Peters and Nick Schultz.

Nick Featherstone and Alec Carruth picked up assists.

Carter Edmondson made 18 saves for West, which plays Midland today at 2:20 p.m.
