Prep Sports Roundup: Warriors come out on top

BENZONIA — Forest Area scored a pair of wrestling wins Wednesday, beating Mancelona 39-30 and Benzie Central 33-24.

Six Warriors went 2-0 — Landon Elliott at 112, Matthew Elliott at 125, Tyler Lessingwell at 130, Dion Burke at 160, Brandon Ames at 171 and Nick Ames at 189.

Chris Schelske went 1-1 at 152.

Mancelona finished 1-1 after beating Benzie 39-30.

For the Ironmen, Cody Fuller at 103, Mike Meadows at 135, Tristan Waters at 215 and Keegan Richardson at 285 all went 2-0. Caleb Nygren at 112, Noah Burroughs at 119, Noah McDaniel at 125 and Tevin Nygren at 152 went 1-1.

Forest Area and Mancelona will be at Gaylord on Saturday for the Northern Michigan Championships.

Titans, Trojans drop double - duals

Traverse City West had four wrestlers finish 2-0, but the Titans dropped Big North Conference duals to Petoskey 51-26 and Alpena 41-36.

For West, Vincent Priante at 103-112, Jonah Jasman at 119, Michael Lambert at 130 and Caleb Kase at 140 all went 2-0 on the night. Brad Squires at 103 and James Peck at 215 each posted one win.

Central also lost to Petoskey and Gaylord. The Trojans only had one win on the night as Justice Korson had a pin against Alpena at 140.

Central is at Portage Central on Saturday while West competes in the Northern Michigan Championships at Gaylord.

East Jordan     70 Kalkaska     56

Jordan Weber and Joe Manville scored 15 points apiece as East Jordan defeated Kalkaska 70-56 for its first Lake Michigan Conference win.

Noah Baccus added 11 points and six assists for the Red Devils, who led 49-28 at half.

Marlon Reese and Mitchell Dunn topped Kalkaska with 17 points apiece.

East Jordan (3-5) plays Grayling on Friday.

Forest Area     62 Pellston     49

Forest Area improved to 5-1 in the Ski Valley Conference with a 62-49 triumph over Pellston.

The Warriors (6-2 overall) led 31-24 at half. Chad Roberts led the way with 17 points. Austin Vance added 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Justin Burke pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds to go with 10 points..

Austin Hamlin led Pellston with 15 points.

Forest Area hosts Gaylord St. Mary on Friday.
