EAST LANSING — Running in the Spartan Elite division of the gigantic Michigan State Invitational, Traverse City Central's girls placed 11th and the boys 19th.

The event featured 6,000 runners from Michigan and Ohio, plus a race for college teams.

The Elite division was comprised of teams who qualified for the state finals or otherwise excelled last season.

The Trojan girls were led by underclassmen, as their top four finishers were freshmen or sophomores.

Benzie's girls were paced by Alyssa Bennett's 33rd-place effort in 19 minutes flat, while Bryce Cutler was 42nd in 19:14, followed by Makayla Huddleston (20:34), Rachael Peabody (20:57) and Sarah Jones (21:14).

TC Central's boys were led by Kyle Dotterrer (55th in 16:42), Nicholas Tarsa (58th in 16:45), Cam McAuliffe (65th in 16:50), Cam Marshall (142nd in 17:28) and Andrew Bruning (154th in 17:37).

Benzie's boys were led by Kyle Bailey (105th in 17:10), Ismael Halaweh (111th in 17:14), Andrew Hayden (17:39), Max Gaft (17:42) and Jared Bluhm (17:45).

Central's Anthony Berry won the boys' Elite junior varisty race in a time of 17:09, a full 12 seconds ahead of the next runner in a field of 861 racers.
