TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Christian pulled out a 25-19, 25-10, 20-25, 20-25, 15-9 Cherryland Conference volleyball win over Grand Traverse Academy on Monday.
The Sabres (9-11-3) were led by Maddie White (four digs, 13 kills, three blocks, six aces), Amanda Ufer (six digs, three kills, two aces), Shannon Ufer (one kill, eight aces, 10 assists) and Mikayla Brett (four digs, five kills, four blocks).
Christian competes in a tournament at Benzie Central on Saturday.
TC West 3 Alpena 0
Traverse City West improved to 2-1 with a 25-12, 25-19, 25-14 Big North win over Alpena.
The Titans were led by Katie Placek (12 kills, eight digs), Courtney VanHouzen (11 kills), Kimmy Bilinski (11 digs), Matti Mokanyk (30 assists) and Anna O'Hara (eight kills).
The West JV team (14-1, 3-0) beat Alpena 25-14, 25-15, 25-14. Pacing the Titans: Alexa Painter (four kills, three aces), Carley Drzewieski (three kills, three digs, one ace), Jodi Turnquist (six kills, three digs, two aces) and Kari Cannon (seven kills, one ace).
The freshmen won 25-21, 25-21, 25-24. Makenna Mattson (five kills) and Paige Ligon (five assists) led the way.
West is at Petoskey on Wednesday and at Fruitport on Saturday.
TC Central 3 Gaylord 1
Traverse City Central evened its Big North record at 2-2 with a 25-10, 23-25, 25-20, 25-15 win over Gaylord.
The Trojans (13-3-1) were sparked by Jessie Kushner (six kills, six aces, 10 digs), Brie Goodno (14 kills, two aces, seven digs), Kiley Kowal (six kills, two blocks) and Maddy Duensing (34 assists, two aces).
The JV (4-0 in BNC) won 25-16, 25-15, 25-11. Cara Ferguson (defense, passing) and Jessie Hiemstra (hitting, blocking) powered the Trojans, who host Ogemaw Heights on Wednesday.
Trojans 1st, Titans 2nd at Alpena Invitational
Traverse City Central's Courtney Dye shot a one-under 71 to lift the Trojans to a Big North Conference win in the Alpena Invitational.
The Trojans finished with a 337. West was second with a 352.
Dye had just 24 putts on the day. Amelia Pezzetti and Nonie Tompkins tied for sixth at 88 while Abby Palisin was ninth at 90 for Central.
West was paced by Emily Dean, who was third at 82. Taylor Kehoe took fourth at 84 and Laura Krieber fifth at 87. Amanda Gross shot 99.
Central won the JV portion of the tournament with a 459. Kate Trubac shot 98, Kendall Langman 110, Abbie Crick 115 and Molly Smith 136 for Central.
Elk Rapids 5 Grayling 0
Talon Felker scored four goals to power Elk Rapids to a 5-0 Lake Michigan Conference win over Grayling.
Andy Atkinson also tallied. Austin McMullen and Jacob Loew drew assists. Timmy Barber had three saves in goal.
The Elks (6-3), who had 26 shots on goal, host Traverse City Christian on Thursday.
TC Christian 5 Bellaire 2
Jacob Rorick netted three goals as Traverse City Christian upended Bellaire 5-2.
Jon Tuck and Brett Boltsma added solo goals. It was 5-0 at half. Denny Hall scored Bellaire's (7-4) two goals in the second half.
Christian (9-1) travels to Suttons Bay on Wednesday. Bellaire is at Forest Area today.
Glen Lake 1 Benzie Central 1
Glen Lake and Benzie Central battled to a 1-1 Greater Northwest draw.
Jake Lewis scored for the Lakers and Janfried Wemkin for the Huskies.
Suttons Bay 2 Northport 0
Jared Orban turned aside 16 shots as Suttons Bay defeated Northport 2-0 in a Greater Northwest soccer match.
Jason Winoweicki and Logan Mikesell scored for the Norse (2-0-2, 2-2-2).
