HOUGHTON — Traverse City Central scored three of its four goals on the power play, but an explosive Houghton offense scored eight times in an 8-4 victory over the Trojans on Saturday at the Rick Miller Invitational.
Houghton jumped on Central (2-3) in a hurry, scoring four goals before seven minutes had elapsed in the opening period on the way to building a 7-0 lead.
“Houghton is a good team. They skate well and they really move the puck,” said Central coach Chris Givens. “We were back on our heels a little bit, but once we kind of weathered their scores we pushed back. We had 10 shots in the first period and 11 shots in the second period.”
Joe Videki, Cam Givens and Alex Oliver netted goals with the extra skater for the Trojans. John Peters had the other score, his first varsity goal. Givens, Oliver, Buddy Rose, Cooper Marshall, Rhys Adle, Jack Stevenson, Drew Girard-Pampu and Parker Hebden notched assists.
Darrell Carlisle made 54 saves in net for Central. The Trojans put 30 shots on goal themselves.
Central hosts Cadillac on Wednesday.
