Traverse City Record-Eagle
---- — It wasn’t the best of starts for Traverse City West in Thursday’s girls basketball season opener against Grand Haven, but the Titans played the Buccaneers even the rest of the way in a 43-31 loss.
West trailed 16-4 after the first quarter, but were solid the rest of the game against the two-time defending Class A state champions.
“In the second half we played pretty well,” said West head coach Dave Ginsberg. “We dug in. It was a good first game for us to get ready for this season.”
Kiley Kreple led the Titans with 18 points. For Grand Haven, Taylor Craymer had 12 and Amanda Merz 10.
Grand Haven also took the junior varsity game, 48-23.
MacKenna Mattson and Abby Moyes each had six for West.
The Titans are at Rockford on Tuesday.
