Girls Basketball Roundup: Forest Area beats TC Christian

Forest Area led from start to finish, opening the girls basketball season with a 35-20 victory over Traverse City Christian.

Onna Hulwick led the Warriors with 14 points and Dani Johne chipped in with nine points. Mary Whims and Rebecca Crosby each had six points for the Sabres, who trailed 20-7 at the half.

Manistee 48

Mason County Central 43

Manistee outscored Mason County Central 22-16 in the second half to erase a one-point halftime deficit and give the Chippewas a 48-43 victory to open the girls basketball season.

Audrey Tomaszewski led Manistee with 13 points, while Emily Kott and Emma Burns each had eight. Annie Fuller chipped in with seven points and played tough defense. For Mason County Central Madison Geers scored 17 points and Payton Bladzik had 10.

Manistee, which hosts Kingsley on Wednesday, also won the junior varsity game, 46-15.

Sault Ste. Marie Freshmen 55

TC West Freshmen 10

Traverse City West freshmen dropped their season opener 55-10 to Sault Ste Marie in the Petoskey Invitational. Kyali Hewitt led the Titans with three points.
