Placek, Hicks and Yaakoby are honored

Traverse City West’s Katie Placek, Boyne City’s Kylie Hicks and Leland’s Noa Yaakoby were each named to their respective division’s all-state first team in selections announced by the state volleyball coaches association.

Placek, an outside hitter who helped lead the Titans to an appearance in the quarterfinals, was on the Class A first team, while Hicks — a middle blocker — was part of Boyne City’s team that advanced to the regional semifinals and was on the Class C first team. Yaakoby, an outside hitter, was a key cog in Leland’s run to the Class D state semifinals.

Class B second team honors went to Cadillac middle hitter Selena Golnick. In Class C, outside hitters Madeline Boss of Charlevoix and Madeline Rysztak of Traverse City St. Francis were on the second team. Pellston outside hitter Mackenzie Wright and Leland setter Caitlin McKee were part of the Class D second team.

TC West outside hitter Anna O’Hara made the Class A third team, Cadillac setter Hannah Baker was on the Class B third team, Boyne City setter Heather Nichols was on the Class C third team and Leland libero Whitney Schaub was on the Class D third team.

Honorable mention accolades went to Boyne City’s Erin Baker, McBain’s Meredith Hamlet, Hannah Carter and Shaylee Smith of Pellston, Tabitha Cecil of Forest Area and Leland’s Felicia Whittaker.
