LAKE CITY — Sixth-ranked Lake City (6-0, 3-0) remained unbeaten with a 46-0 homecoming triumph over Missaukee County and Highland Conference rival McBain (4-2, 2-1). It is the fifth shutout in six games for Lake City, which has outscored its opponents 308-6.
Quarterback Drew Marion maneuvered to 144 yards on 20 carries with TD runs of 1, 1 and 3 yards and he hit on 12-of-20 passes for 151 yards and a TD strike of 8 yards to Kevin Kunkel. Senior running back Jake Truesdale powered to 92 yards on 11 tries with TD bursts of 17, 9 and 11 yards.
Lake City led 13-0 late in the first half but began to pull away when Kunkel intercepted a pass deep in Rambler territory to set up a short TD run by Marion with 46 seconds remaining, giving the Trojans a 19-0 lead. The Trojans then scored on their initial drive of the second half when Truesdale swept 17 yards around end to make it 26-0.
Tight end Lucas Marion had five catches for 57 yards and Kunkel grabbed three for 41 yards and a score.
Defensively for the Trojans, Austin Booms made 10 stops while Drew Marion had nine and Truesdale eight. Lucas Marion had an interception along with Kunkel and defensive tackle Ethan Wetzel recovered a fumble.
For McBain, senior halfback Zach Stephan ran 19 times for 58 yards and fullback Seth Barnette recorded 47 yards on nine tries.
Next up for the Trojans is the much-anticipated showdown at home with defending league champ Beal City. McBain plays host to league foe Evart.
